Why So Many Gray Cars ?

When I look at my apartment window at the parking lot below, I see almost entirely gray cars. And the rest are black or white, with a few maroon ones (another dull color). My car is red. Then there one Camaro which is a brilliant orange. if it weren't for these 2 cars, you'd think you were looking at a 1950s black & white TV show.

I decided to check out the colors of cars on the road. Sure enough. They're mostly all gray. What's the matter people ? Don't you believe in color any more ? I remember back in the 50s, cars were colorful, and often even 2 tone colors.

Gray cars are not only dull looking, they van also be hazardous. The Dept of Highway Safety says the safest color for a car is yellow (high visiblity both at night and in fog). 2nd best is orange. 3rd is red. The worst > gray (least visiblitly in fog).

So if you have a gray car, get down to the nearest auto paint shop, and get some color on your car.

This not about auto colours, though I only like black autos but I think the most fantastic auto America has ever designed and produced from an aesthetic point is the 1963/1964 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Coupe (C2) it is very sexy and perfect and it looks GREAT from ALL angles, it is BEYOND beautiful and 100% GORGEOUS and pretty much orgasm inducing, the below is the 1964 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Coupe (C2):

That's a De Tomaso Pantera. They merely used the Ford engines. I had the great pleasure of blowing the doors off of one of them in My Ford GT a couple of decades ago!

Gray cars are a hazard. Owned one once and I'll never have that color again. I can't tell you how many times my gray car blended in with pavement on cloudy days. I almost was T-boned about 50 times driving that car. Glad the day I traded it in on a colored car.

Yeah, in a quarter mile race, for sure, but get out on the open road and it was a far different story. I've had my 289 cu inch Mk I up to 209 mph. Try doing that in your old Goat!

Great, as long as you didn't actually want to drive it. The split window was dumped because it totally ruined the already-bad rear visibility. The C2 Corvettes were cramped, hot, and uncomfortable.

Great, as long as you didn't actually want to drive it. The split window was dumped because it totally ruined the already-bad rear visibility. The C2 Corvettes were cramped, hot, and uncomfortable.

Some sacrifices have to be made in the interest of looking good, dude. Get with the program!

One might ask as much why no bumpers anymore? Or any chrome anymore? Or even any innovative designs? God help you if you tap the front of a Lexus! Does everything have to look like a melted down blob formed in a wind tunnel? Would it kill them to lose a couple mpg just to have some of the above? Why are all the cars metallic (gray) now? Because those are the colours that manufacturers are offering. Just as they no longer offer a simple truck with crank windows and a stick, let alone manual steering or brakes. Aside from the fact that cars could be half the price they are if not for all the government regulations, they might be half as expensive again if we could get them the way we want, without 109 power options------- and the occasional pretty colour.

^^^^ I do not like those ice cream colours look like Gangsta Pimp autos.

The model the year before the 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Coupe (C2) they had rear split window looking very FANTASTIC not sure why they only produced the rear split window only in 1963 and then never another time, I'll have to Google and see if I can find why, the below is the 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Coupe (C2) with the rear split window, again GORGEOUS and pretty much orgasm inducing:

I would rather have a Mopar A-body. Stiff structure, good suspension design, light...and able to run 12s, corner at better than 1G, hot-lap a roadcourse all day with no trouble, and have daily-driver reliability and comfort using mostly factory parts down to the wheel bearing grease.
