We continually hear that the blacks in America have been held back because of racism. If true,how does one explain how successful the Nigerians have been in this country? If racism is truly holding back the blacks, the Nigerians who emigrated here would have never gotten a foot hold in this country to be successful.

Nigerian-Americans are also increasingly entering into entrepreneurship and building tech companies in the US.

On the medical field, you will find them there too; as they continue to abandon their home country to work in American hospitals for better pay and working conditions.

There is no racism in America. Is it invention to try and rip apart working class people.

Nigerians have an incredibly hard work ethic. I knew a few of them during my time working at an Islamic school.

IMHO, there are no (or at least very few) differences that can be traced to race, the overwhelming cause is cultural.

Black brought to this country as slaves lost their culture (language, food, myths, religion, etc.) and adopted one to deal with being a slave. That culture has been passed on to succeeding generations and kept alive by racial discrimination right down to today.

Immigrants are the exact opposite, where ever they come from. They come here voluntarily so only the most ambitious risk-takers will make that journey. They come and settle in communities of fellow immigrants so they get to maintain their native culture and have a support group ready to assist.

Comparing the two groups is like apples and oranges.

Forever is a long time. When I was young, racism was accepted as normal in America. Today is it not. My hope is that in a generation or two, slavery, Jim Crow, segregation, separate but equal, redlining, etc. will be of interest only to historians.
