Why is there so much strange spiritualism and anti science beliefs in the Pacific Northwest?

For a region that contributes heavily to tech there are some who subscribe to outlandish and ridiculous anti science beliefs.

A future where by 2100 the Western World has defeated Chinese communism, Russian dictatorship, and Islamo fascism! Humanity then develops it's first interstellar vessels.

Tolerance of diversity ... I think these types of people live everyplace but are somehow constrained in how they voice their opinions ... in places where social and political ideas are allowed to flourish also leads itself to the flourishing of new technological advances ... guys sitting naked in a hot tub tripping on acid ...

There's a good argument against human space exploration, very expensive maintaining a habitable environment in outer space ... money better spent on more and better robots ...

You nailed that right on. I lived there 88-96. Talk about lib looneys, saw it first hand. I left. couldn't stand it anymore. Before I moved there even it started to get bad. Kalifornans said "it's God's country" and flocked there (skipping Ore for a while) Then they changed it to KA retard mentality. When Patti Murray got it, I left. Never looked back. KY south central fits me well. Not many libs and they know enough to stay under their rocks, cept Louisville and Lex but no self respecting Rep goes there.

I ain't got a clue except to add that the Northwest US is the acknowledged home of the socialist/anarchist OWS (occupy Wall Street) movement and home to tens of thousands of "homeless" even though the climate isn't suitable to sleeping under a tarp.

Actually it is. Seattle and west of it are very mild. Yeah it rains and a tarp stops that but temps so mild. Rarely below 32F, 1-2 weeks a year. I used to see the poor homeless under the bridges, like 1st ave south end. Refrig box was a luxury condo but rarely did they need more than a 55 gal barrel for heat. 1st up by the ferry was even more but panhandlers mostly. I'd always toss them something. One had a dog lookd just like spud mckenzie and the dog held his cup. Can anyone pass that and not throw a buck?
