Why is Christianity more pronounced in the U.S. than the rest of Western society?

Christianity appeared and the Middle East and spread in Europe profoundly.
Taking into consideration the severe years of inquisition I may suppose that Europe should be far more "Christian" than the USA...
Americans tend to follow the traditions and the belief of Christianity a lot more than the rest of Western civilization. How can this be?

Do you have a shred of evidence to back what you believe because you apparently live in America and that is all you have seen?

But to attempt to answer why Christianity is so prevalent in the US.

Christian groups fled the state run church in England. Thus forming the basis of our government. While we are not a Christian nation, as in being controlled by some Christian theocracy, we are a nation that was built on Christian belief.

I would suggest that one possible reason is that in America religion has never been directly sanctioned by the state. That isn't to suggest that values based on religion have not been 'promoted' by those in office, but that there has never been a law directly imposing one religious view.

One of the reasons that right-wing people like myself, want government involved in as few topics as possible, is that once something is politicized, people hate or oppose a particular topic for no other reason, than because they oppose whoever is in power.

Europe for generations had religion and government intertwined. Thus religion was politicized.

Not so much in America. While there are religious groups that support one view point or another, no one generally identifies one directly with the other. No one says "All Mormons are Republican", or "All Baptists are Democrats".

That said, I would question the claim that America is still Christian. I find that claim to be dubious. Nothing in my experience suggests that is still true. No doubt we have lasted longer than Europe at being Christian, but I'm convinced that period is at an end.

Maybe for the opportunities it offers.

Sounds like you really hate religion, to go off topic like that.

Off topic?

yes, off topic.

Your rant had little to do, if anything at all, with:

"Why is Christianity more pronounced in the U.S. than the rest of Western society?"

IT was more of a: Religion, or at least Christianity, is bad, so I'm going to badmouth it.

and before you rant about my being a jesusfreak, I haven't been in a church since 1964, for anything but weddings, funerals, and 2 christenings.

your post and thought process is becoming more stranger and stranger

You have Muslims cutting off heads, throwing gays off of buildings, stoning to death young girls and yet you post this?

The Australian's porn use puts ours to shame.

We are a Christian Nation

It's not as bad now but for a long time America was made up of a lot of isolated towns and villages who had a church as the center of their social order. In the South we had an unofficial theocracy on a local level for a very long time. Even in my dad's day the local movie theater had to preview it's showings for the leading citizens at the first Baptist church. They banned "Gone with the wind" and many other films for various reasons. The point is that for some parts of the country there is a nostalgia for a time when religion was a self-protected and perpetuated social system, never mind it put unelected power in the hands of bigots and idiots. The uneducated do not want the trouble of making their own moral decisions.

It offered the reason of available opportunities for men and backed it up with data. How is that off topic?

Well all the Semitic religions have their peccadillos, I was merely responding to the US Christian scene.

The key of course, is "self-identified Christian adult men".

This is one of the fundamental differences of western religion, and eastern.

If you go to the Middle East and say "I'm a Muslim". They won't believe you, until they see you actually practicing your faith.

If you drink a beer, you are not a Muslim. If you fail to recite Islamic prayers, you are not a Muslim. If you eat Pork, you are not a Muslim.

But here in America, and in many western countries, people seem to think that just "I say I am", means that they are. So you have someone calling themselves "christian", and they are hooked on porn, sleeping with their girlfriends, and doing all kinds of ridiculous things.

Years and years ago, I met a guy who said he was Christian, and he hated, literally *hated* jews. All Jews should die. All Jews are evil. And you are a Christian? Oh yes! Of course I'm christian!

You know Jesus was a Jew, right? 0.o

No connection between Christianity, and what being a Christian means. None, whatsoever.

The inquisition was hundreds of years ago, brief, and was an example of what happens when the state controls the church.

The US was formed as a Christian country. Christians came here to escape persecution and the country was developed via application of Christian philosophy. Which is why we developed into the safest, most free, most prosperous country the world has ever seen.
