Why have the Jews survived?

Quote:

:: The famous (Catholic) historian Paul Johnson writes:

“All the great conceptual discoveries of the intellect seem obvious and inescapable once they have been revealed, but it requires a special genius to formulate them for the first time. The Jews had this gift. To them we owe the idea of equality before the law, both Divine and human; of the sanctity of life and the dignity of the human person; of the individual conscience and social responsibility; of peace as an abstract ideal and love as the foundation of justice, and many other items which constitute the basic moral furniture of the human mind. Without the Jews it might have been a much emptier place.”

Johnson errs in ascribing these insights to the Jewish people, when in fact they were revealed to us by God. ::

One of the great miracles of world history is the eternal vibrancy and relevance of Torah.

Why have the Jews Survived?
You can't wipe out cochroaches. Jus' sayin'.

Don't say anything then. If all you can do is point and grunt.
Ok, I can't criticize Jews, can I criticize the Torah, a book of old wives tales?

This isn't a thread about criticism of Jews, if you'd paid attention.

If you want to do that, why don't you open a thread, and indulge yourself there.

The Jewish people have survived because God is on their side.
The Hebrews were the only race of people that believed in the one and only God ,way back 4,000 years ago.

The question should be Why have the Jews survived given all they have faced.. The answer can be found in the book of Jonah as long as it is read as an allegory and not taken literally.... It should come as no surprise that Israel is thriving in spite of the obstacles arrayed against her ..... Yes the United States is in her corner at the moment but this wasn't always the case as it did not suit them and they might not see eye to eye in the future but such is the way of the nations or peoples they are like the waves of the ocean where first one rises up and then falls down only to be replaced by another wave which cannot maintain itself and falls like the others before it... Israel is solid and unmoving like the land and is not bothered by the many nations who clamber and make noise like the rushing waters but in the end are fleeting and without a solid foundation in which to rest and become more then just liquid which easily slips out of ones grasp...

Exactly. Judaism is the one true religion. Other religions are stupid and need to get on the Jewish train.

Rather arrogant thinking, especially since that is not taught in the Torah or the Bible.

More likely because they are a clannish culture that frowns upon much intermingling.

There is no evidence that any Deity whether Deist or Theist is partial to any particular ethnic group.

Why have the Assyrians survived ??

Why have the Swiss survived ??

Why have the Danes or Swedes survived ??

Why have the Berbers survived ??

Etc.

Sometimes the answer is geographic isolation.

Sometimes it is clannishness however.

Myopia is not why. Open your eyes and look around you.

Historians will tell you that their continued existence and contributions to mankind disproportionate to their tiny numbers is inexplicable. When pressed on their success, they give all credit to God. Thus their chosenness is the least arrogant answer they can give.

Christianity is avodah zarah (Hebrew: "foreign worship," meaning "idolatry" or "strange worship") and the Torah has nothing to do with the goyim

In regards to the ten commandments with are 10 guides which are expound on the 613 commandments

God never brought the goyim or their ancestors out of Egypt! Ex 20:2 "I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery."

The Lord has not given the goyim the promised land of Canaan! Ex 20:12 "Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be prolonged in the land which the Lord your God gives you"

Since the Sabbath is a sign between God and fleshly Israel, there is nothing requiring goyim to keep it! (Ex. 31:13,17; Ezek. 20:12, 20)

If it was intended for all mankind, then why specifically say "strangers within your gates". Obviously the goyim (strangers) were never required at any point in earth history to keep the Sabbath or ten commandment

They are only required to follow the seven laws of Noah

Seven Laws of Noah - Wikipedia

Universal Morality - The Seven Noahide Laws

THE 7 LAWS

1
Acknowledge that there is only one G‑d who is Infinite and Supreme above all things. Do not replace that Supreme Being with finite idols, be it yourself, or other beings (the christian jesus). This command includes such acts as prayer, study and meditation.

2
Respect the Creator. As frustrated and angry as you may be, do not vent it by cursing your Maker.

3
Respect human life. Every human being is an entire world. To save a life is to save that entire world. To destroy a life is to destroy an entire world. To help others live is a corollary of this principle.

4
Respect the institution of marriage. Marriage is a most Divine act. The marriage of a man and a woman is a reflection of the oneness of G‑d and His creation. Disloyalty in marriage is an assault on that oneness.

5
Respect the rights and property of others. Be honest in all your business dealings. By relying on G‑d rather than on our own conniving, we express our trust in Him as the Provider of Life.

6
Respect G‑d's creatures. At first, Man was forbidden to consume meat. After the Great Flood, he was permitted - but with a warning: Do not cause unnecessary suffering to any creature.

7
Maintain justice. Justice is G‑d's business, but we are given the charge to lay down necessary laws and enforce them whenever we can. When we right the wrongs of society, we are acting as partners in the act of sustaining the creation.

Millions of Jews did not survive the Final Solution.
Only if you believe everything ends when you die. The reality is that you existed when space and time were created, possibly even before that. But I do know that the energy that makes up who you are will continue to exist after you die. This is not a matter of taste or opinion, it is a consequence of the 1st Law of Thermodynamics.
