Why do Conservatives/Libertarians care about the Dems?

Establishment GOP office holders cover that part of the Democratic party not already represented by the Greens so what useful function does the Democratic party perform? Libertarian and TEA party activists are sufficient to keep the GOP more or less honest. So, why all the angst over the party of Tax and Spend?

When you factor in the democrat party downslide in the last decade you have to assume that the establishment part of the GOP might become the new democrat party if democrats can manage to kick out the crazies.
