Five years ago, Shop.org published a press release:
"While traditional retailers will be monitoring store traffic and sales on Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving), online retailers have set their sights on something different: Cyber Monday, the Monday after Thanksgiving, which is quickly becoming one of the biggest online shopping days of the year."
Ta-dah! The term "Cyber Monday" was born.
The only problem: It's mostly a marketing gimmick, according to consumer electronics experts and an online metrics tracker.

Mostly right, but this one written 2 years ago is better.

The big problem mentioned in passing is that cyber-buyers are not impulse buyers to the same degree as sticks and bricks buyers are.

Another factor is that cyberbuying is still not at saturation. The big selling items this year are ereaders, pads and laptops in other words the stuff needed to do cyber-buying is still being accumulated.

Cyber security is still evolving with a great deal of cyber sales done by phone even now.

One can still find great deals online. Amazon, as well as a great many other retailers, started their special deals right around Thanksgiving. It sure beats dealing with crowds at a mall.
