It's called, trying to keep the grant money flowing for the least amount of work possible. Then political opportunists like Algore got ahold of it and went berzerk. Then those who saw this as a tool to further their anti-humanist agenda latched on to drive the engine forward.

This was not a grand conspiracy of any time. This wasn't even a unified conspiracy. This was a collection of small conspiracies merging together till they became a miasma of greed, avarice, powerlust and insanity all wrapped up in a nice green package.

The worst part is that those who truly believed without being party to any of the manipulations and really DID want to help the world are the ones getting burned. They've been so inured by lies created for individual causes that got wrapped up in this wad of crap it will take years for some of them to be able to pull their head out from betwixt their nether cheeks and see sunlight again.

You are an idiot. Global warming is an observed phenomonem. The Ice Caps are melting in Greenland and Antarctica. The North Polar Cap is where we thought it would be in 2050 right now. The permafrost in North America and Siberia is emmitting huge amount of CO2 and CH4. These used to be sinks, not emmitters. We are now seeing ocean clathrates emmitting in the Arctic Ocean and the North Atlantic.

Whatever you make of the e-mails, it does not change these facts.

You cannot say that because the size of the money is peanuts to an energy firm means that some jackass who is lamenting he got into education and is not making the moola as someone who was smart enough to DO in the free market is going to ignore the vast improvement of HIS life. This is a false argument. A millionaire may have been a better choice to do the research because he'd be less likely to be swayed by the possibility of an extra few hundred thousand personally in his pocket.

So no. I deride your argument right here. The two are not comparable. We're talking about scientists and academia surviving on the peanuts of tenure, not the real industry of the market who live and die by their accuracy.

The polar ice caps are melting? Huh... somebody better alert the Canadians among others. They seem to beleive that the 'melting' you are talking about is nothing more than wind drift on the ice floes piling it up on other sections of the ocean. But now SINCE you brought it up. This is STILL not the warmest it's been. When the Vikings first discovered Vinland (aka New England) they had farms and other agriculture on Greenland. All of that is gone now, buried under the glaciers because it got COLD AGAIN! It's what stopped the Vikings from having permanent settlements here in North America. You could be speaking Norwegian if it weren't for the weather turning cold forcing them to retreat in front of it because their tech couldn't keep up with the changing needs.

And ANOTHER thing! As recently as 175 years ago, the Thames used to freeze over in the winter. Yep. That rancid strand of water. Charles Dickens was not being poetic when he was talking about describing ice and snow in London in A Christmas Carol. How is this a positive benefit? They used to be able to grow grapes wine in southern England with ease. Now... less so. Warm weather is a GOOD thing. Always has been. Every major expansion in civilization seems to coincide with warmer weather. Declines follow cold. And you want to stop this (not that you can) because???? There's a benefit to somebody?

There is that. We aren't entirely sure how hydrocarbons form. That said... I'm going with common vernacular here. I'm still not convinced yet in the Abiotic oil theory but it is intriguing.
