Sobiesky, king of Poland, has single handedly redefined the history of western europe, if not of the whole world, when he commanded his army to save Vienna the Holy Roman Empire capital from the Ottoman takeover.

Probably if Sobiesky was motivated by any particular thing, it was preserving his land from being taken over by a foreign power and religion.
