What is racist about the fact that alot of blacks enjoy fried chicken and watermelon??? For someone is caught up on "representative sample" you of all people should agree with this.

We all are different. We have different cultures, we have different ways of life. There may not always be a cultural difference that is specified through the color of one's skin, but 9 times out of 10, there is, especially in our part of the world. Mexicans in Texas are typically light brown and have a different culture than whites. Blacks are usually darker and have a different culture than whites. Whites are well, white.....and have a different culture than the other two. Get over it.

Mexicans typically like tacos, enchiladas, tortillas, and other culinary choices that would be labled under "Mexican Food."

Blacks like fried chicken, gritz, BBQ, among other things that would be associated with black culture.

Whites have their own things they do...

Do you really think that acknowledging difference between the races is considered racism?? From my understanding, racism is when you hate an entire race of people strictly for the color of their skin. For example, A white guy could save your life and you would still hate his guts because he's white...or vice versa. That's racism.
With Larkinn's logic, a cartoonest that draws slightly bigger lips on a black character (illustrating the fact that he is black) would be racist. I don't see a problem with this. If you were to draw a black cartoon character with the features of a white person, then it would not be accurately depicting the character.

And as far as people "experiencing" racism, I think you have to be careful what you call racism. I grew up in a town that was mostly hispanic in Central/South Texas. I went to a birthday party of a friend of mine. I ended up being the only white boy their. The whole evening, my friends uncle and others nicknamed me "wado" (Spelling?) which is Spanish for white boy. Now did I take this as racism??? No, they laughed and treated me like family. He simply acknowledge the fact that I was white.

It's no difference between acknowledging the fact that someone is overweight, or wears fancy clothes, or may have a cetain personality trait. It's psychology, you target differences when you're placed in a confrontation. If someone you're arguing with has ugly shoes, you'd say, "Take your ugly-ass shoes and leave." Now does that mean that every shoe that guy has is ugly? Or that you hate everyone with ugly shoes? NO. Like I said before, many teens tell their parents they hate their guts and wished they were dead. Now does that mean that they always hate their parents? No. Does that mean that they hate all parents? No.

Now I do agree that racism exists, don't get me wrong. But I feel that it's the one's screaming racism that are the racist. Typically the ones doing this are only screaming it for one side. Why is that? If you're really against racism, you should advocate your disagreeance on all sides. You shouldn't come out and protest only when a black man is killed by a white guy, but also come out when a white guy is killed by a black guy. Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, and Quannel X (from Houston) don't do this. They only come out of their holes when a black man is treated "unjust" by anyone else. IMO, those are the racists...the one's who only fight for one side. Because we all know that the racism (that does exist) goes all ways.

It's a mystery sometimes, isn't it, what the definition of racism really is...in my mind it is purposely treating someone of another ethnic background as inferior to you simply because they are of another ethnic background.

I don't think Larkin is wrong so much as I think he is seeing racism sometimes where it doesn't exist. I do think that black people are more likely to be shot by trigger happy cops of any race which is probably why it gets questioned more when it happens. I do think that sometimes people aren't hired because of their race or gender, and sometimes it is for racist reasons and sometimes it isn't. If blacks make better basketball players I don't see that as "racism" in the negative sense (which is the main definition), but it is racial stereotyping that probably happens to be true at this point in time...but since being good at basketball is positive, it's not considered bad racism (what I think Larkin was inferring).

The food thing is just silly. We always have soul food on MLK's birthday just like we have Guinness on St. Patrick's day.
