1. Traditionally no one from the party runs against an incumbant president. No matter how stupid and incompetent baby bush was, no one took him on.

2. No one is going to waste their money running against an incumbant with a 50% approval rating.

Sucks being you guys. You'll have to rely on a decent candidate to try to beat him instead of someone from his own party.

Yes, the "unbeatable" Obama has a war chest of about $1b, and has hired hit teams to take out all potential rivals. They'v already gone after Christy, and he isn't even running!

I think it is in the institutional rules of the Democratic (and Republican) national parties that the presidential incumbent is automatically the representative for the general presidential election.

Not really. Remember 1980? Teddy Kennedy gave Carter a run for his money. In the end, Carter prevailed by a fairly wide margin. But heading into it, Carter was vulnerable, so Kennedy put up a strong campaign. Gov. Brown of California also ran that year.

The bottom line though, is that Democrats just don't see Obama as being vulnerable. The Republicans can't even find a candidate with much of a shot at beating Obama, so why would a Democrat think they could? They'll just wait until 2016 if they are still interested.

I don't have a dog in the National Socialists vs. Fascists political shootout being a Ron Paul supporter myself but I would advise the Fascists to at least have a Plan B.

Obama is in a slightly different dynamic today though. The economy will hurt him but I believe that he will have an easier time overcoming that hurdle than previous POTUS’ because he has a following more like rock stars than political figures. That was a large part of his election in the first place. People that don’t even like his policies seem to like him anyway and that is just dumb.
