What should we legalize to make it fairer? What we shouldn't legalize is 1. murder, 2. rape, 3. violent crimes(assault, torture, etc), and finally looting and arson.

What I think should be legalized
1. Drugs...People shouldn't have to go to prison for doing drugs.
2. Tax free cigs.

What I think should be minimized. As in you don't go to jail for it or you get fined less.
1. Fighting
2. first time small offenses of robbery of stores.
3. Carrying a gun on you.

Of course, the thugs want to legalize it all and kill some pigs, but in the sprit of the new year I thought I'd consider a few minor offenses.

Congratulations on the most bizarre post of the year! Drinking this early?

The latest excuse for young black male crime is that they get arrested for selling drugs and then learn prison culture. Should this be legalized?

Not selling but possession.

Drug use amongst blacks and whites are nearly equal. Yet blacks make up nearly 4 times more of the arrests. Why? Well a lot of it has to do with poverty and the unwillingness of police to bust any of the suburban white kids because it isn't as "easy" to get a conviction because they can hire better attorneys or if they arrest the kid from the right family, they can get their funding taken away. Can't arrest the councilman's kid that's for sure.

See the problem? Police have to ensure that people believe they are competent, so they keep their budgets and their jobs. So what do they do? Arrest people. So who are they going to target? Poor people. Why? Because they aren't going to put up much of a fight and if they do, no one will listen to them because they are poor. Who are poor? Blacks and Hispanics. Why? Well a lot of it has to do with racial segregation and discrimination that led to refusal to give housing loans or houses to black people which gave the past generations of black people a disadvantage in passing down property to future generations.

And so you see the statistics and yet you see the system constantly harassing you and not others and yet when you try to bring the issue up, lots of white people decide to call them "race baiters" and ignore the issue altogether. Not only ignore it but justify it and say that all black people deserve it.

But my guess is once again you'll ignore it, think it's a non-issue and the situation will get worse.

In many areas the councilmen and women are black. I don't think this is a race issue, but I'm for the legalization of ALL drugs.

I'd like to see pot legal and the era passed.

Unless other infractions are involved (DUI, TSA), simple possession almost never results in arrest, much less jail time. Are YOU ignoring that fact?

Yes it does. Mandatory minimums especially with Crack which before Obama in 2009 or 2010 it was a differential of 100 to 1 in minimum sentence.

For instance, 5 grams of crack got a person 5 years. To get 5 years for powdered cocaine, you needed to have half a kilo in your possession.

And who mostly smoked crack? Black and poor people. But yeah our laws aren't racist at all. Just you know the ones who could afford powder cocaine (ie. Wall Street) would get off easier.

If you are taking about the modern trend, yes some courts are going away from jail time for simple possession. However, it doesn't erase the people who did go to jail for simple possession and their lives being destroyed because of it and having to commit more crimes just to get by because no one would hire a felon.

Just because we can fix the future doesn't mean the effects of the past still do not resonate today.

Drugs are a market, just like any other, and their prices reflect purchasing behaviors. Cocaine is not as expensive as many people seem to think. Especially in the 21st century. Not to mention, usage behaviors between powder users and rock users tend to be different as well. Crack is "cheap" primarily because it's used in smaller doses, and because it's form of high favors different behaviors. In essence, crack calls for a different marketing strategy. Crack is a dramatic and instantaneous high. Users get high quickly from a small amount, but come down shortly thereafter.

Overall, crack users tend to spend more money on powder users, and the price of crack by weight of actual drug product is generally more than powder form. A crack user will probably spend $100 for a night of good times, whereas a powder user will spend half that or less, even though less total cocaine will have been consumed by the crack user.
