Welfare 3500/Month ??? Is that even possible ?

True story yesterday at the dealership.....

"I'll try to make this as short and to the point as I can.

One of my salesmen here had a woman in his office yesterday wanting to lease a brand new Focus. As he was reviewing her credit app with her he noticed she was on social security disability. He said to her you don't look like your disabled and unable to work. She said well I'm really not, I could work if I wanted to but I make more now than I did when I was working and got hurt (non-disabling injury).

She said the gov't sends her $1500.00 a month in 1 check, she gets $700.00 a month on an EBT card (food stamps), and $800.00 a month for rent. Oh yeah and 250 minutes free on her phone. That is just south of $3500.00 a month.

When she was working she was taking home about $330.00 per week. Do the math and then ask yourself why the hell should she go back to work. If you multiply that by millions of people you start to realize the scope of the problem we face as a country. Once the socialist have 51% of the population in that same scenario we are finished.

The question is when do we cross that threshold if we haven't already, and there are not enough people working to pay enough taxes to support the non-working people? Riots?? Be prepared to protect your homes.

She didn't lease the Focus here because the dealer down the road beat our deal $by 10.00/month. Glad to know she is so frugal with her hard earned money."

*********************

Were they sour they lost the deal or is it possible someone could get this much money (say...if they were disabled) ?

$3500/month....untaxed (not sure if that is the case) equates to about $4500/$5000/mo.

Wow.....

BTW: This was on a local Ford dealers Facebook page (or so the e-mail I got states).

I still find it all a bit tough to believe.

1500 + 700 + 800 = 3000.

Not 3500.

Must have had a public education.

.

The story is clearly bullshit.

However depending on where you live and number of dependents, it's possible to receive that much.

A better question would be, take out the red herring of her "really not being disabled", and do you think $3500 a month is too much to give a disabled American to live off of?

Tax free that annualizes to 42,000 a year.

On an taxed basis, that represents the potential equivalent of over 55,000 a year....

What is the average income in this country ?

And why is the story clearly anything ? Because you said so ?

I'd love to see some figures on what is really possible.

It's clearly bullshit because it has too many red herrings. It is everything the right fears, the welfare queen living high off the dole. It's obviously fake, and I think you know that.

Also, last I checked, you too have access to this amazing thing called google. If you really want figures, nothings stopping you from looking.

The right does not fear it....but, if it happens, it should be investigated...there may be more to it than is apparent.

The point of the story was not about her....she was not being villafied. It was that she is (if the reports are true) is making about 2.5X what she was making by working.

This isn't the only time this has come up.

I assume the "just short" means the cell is included".

Whatever....

If that makes you feel better....O.K.

Then why are they saying its going to cost like en extra 5k-6k a year under Romney?
a

Why is who saying it ?

The Political ads and during the debates they were saying mitt and ryan wanted to turn it into a voucher program and it would cost folks an extra 5-6k a year.

This is just one issue i really tend to care about as my parents are on it and my dad has Parkinson's and really can't afford that much plus his meds.

Those ads are run by people who don't like Romney....do you trust them.

One way or the other...the system if going to get more expensive.

What state does this woman live in? Then we can determine the veracity of the story.

For example, the claim she gets $700 a month in EBT is very dubious.

10. How is my allotment determined?
Eligible households are issued a monthly allotment of food assistance benefits based on the Thrifty Food Plan (TFP), a low-cost model diet plan. The TFP is based on National Academy of Sciences’ Recommended Dietary Allowances, and on food choices of low-income households.

An individual household's food assistance allotment is equal to the maximum allotment for that household's size, less 30 percent of the household's net income. Households with no countable income receive the maximum allotment ($526 per month in Fiscal Year 2010 for a household of three people).

I am thinking about chasing it back through the chain to see if it is even possible.

Btw I urge anyone who is honestly upset with welfare entitlements to contact te local office and request some information.

A vast majority of welfare is directly linked to children, the woman in the story would never be getting "$700 ebt, $800 paid to her landlord" if she didn't have 3 kids to care for.

It's damn near impossible for a working age adult to collect anything close to that, and what they can collect, they work for.

Any facts you can provide would be useful.

I am planning on chasing this e-mail back through the source to get some more information. If this is a made up story, I plan to go after someone in the "information" network.

If it is true, I am going to ask about how we investigate this.

What are you going to investigate? All that income/benefits are perfectly legal.

HH of 5 people:

SSI parent: $697
medicare premium (paid by state): $100
Foodstamps: $700
SSB disabled parent subsidy: $100 (I dont' remember exactly what it is but that's close) per child, $400 for 4 children
Tanf for each child: $339 x4 = $1356
If mom is SSDI (in which case her income could be up to twice as much) then we count her income in the household, and the kids wouldn't be eligible for the whole amount of tanf....
Child support passthrough is $50 per kid, if absent parent is paying, up to $200 per *family* (so if she has kids with diff dads, that can pan out in different ways)

I'm at $3456.

Without counting the rent/energy subsidies, which are quite often the full amount of rent ($800) and then the client actually gets a check in the mail for electricity, but since electricity is covered by the rental subsidy that money is theirs, and it's around $100 a month.

Yes it is possible. For the Disabled, the ones that truly need and deserve aid. Between local and state aid.
prove it charles!

I just did some googling to view the government restrictions, rules and amounts paid on some of those benefits the salesman said and I say it is IMPOSSIBLE for this woman to receive those amounts...

My Mother in law is proof bud. Legally blind, and almost unable to walk. Between the state and Fed everything is provided for her. Food, Rent, Utilities. Of course this includes SS, and many wont count that as "welfare" but she has no income other than SS, and State and Fed Aid.

5 ppl = potential for $793...

the income standard is $4165; if you make less than that (gross) you are potentially eligible for foodstamps..they get full deductions for utilities/rent even though they don't necessarily pay a cent.

But ssi/ch support/tanf are all counted against that allotment..

But if there's another adult in the HH...an ssi adult, or a disabled vet, or an elderly person or otherwise disabled...then they can have a little stream of money coming in as well.

Why work when you can vote Democrat?

This forum is FULL of those types of 'ups'.

interesting and, since reality isn't your thing... i'll just say again. blue states pay more into the system than they take out. red states take more than they pay.

so how about you stop mooching off of us more successful, better educated blue staters?

This is startling ignorance.

Oh....no problem~
I don't have a problem working 40 hrs a week so they can collect more money a month than i make and sit home on their ass. I can't afford to lease a new car, or buy an old car, but that's just fine. My taxes will take care of it for you and all the rest of the moochers i have to help support.

Asswipe!

As I said earlier, let's just eliminate federal entitlement payments entirely. I'd love to see the effect on red states like Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Alabama, Mississippi, Florida, etc.

I agree. Lets eliminate all Social programs.

I'd love to see the effect on those collecting someone elses hard earned money.

Gee. Guess they would have to get off their asses and get a fucking job and take care of themselves and THEIR kids.

Gets my vote.

I smell a big steaming pile of bullshit here, but of course the nutters will run with it.
What is most interesting is how so many seem eager to believe this story in spite of the absence of any credible documentation and the extremely questionable circumstances. Such as; would an auto salesman engage in such an implicitly offensive exchange with a customer, telling her she doesn't appear disabled? And would the customer respond to such impudence by bragging about how much she was collecting?

This story would seem extremely suspicious even if presented by a highly credible source, rather than deriving from an anonymous second hand conversation.

Apparently the consensus is your mother in law needs to "get off her ass and take care of herself".

I am going to ask the question again....

Does anyone know if this is even possible...that she could collect this kind of cabbage ?

Yes, it is. People who have a lot of children, or illegal aliens who claim to have many children, will receive many benefits for the asking. Illegal aliens also enjoy a big payday every April 15 because they claim as many children as they want, and no one verifies, so they make bank on the child tax credit. The average was over $10,000 each tax filer. A lot of people are on disability. The rule has become that even if the absence of medical findings to back up a person's claim, doctors must take the word of patients. So, if you continually claim neck or back pain and nothing shows up in x-rays or tests, you still can win the day and receive benefits.
My older brother tried for 4 years to get disability. All the while he was fighting for it, he enjoying hunting, hiking, skiing and dancing. But he continued to claim he couldn't work because he had trouble sitting or standing for more than 15 minutes. They finally gave in to him and he received a big fat check for 4 years worth of benefits since they owe from the time a person first filed. It was like winning the lottery and he celebrated with one party after another and a few ski trips. The doctors couldn't back up his claims, but the rules say since he had a complaint, that had to be considered a valid ailment.

Meanwhile, my other brother just went through a second surgery for his shoulder and the doctors won't clear him to work. He couldn't get an extension on his unemployment and he was denied disability. So, even though he is in pain much of the time since he has a tear in his shoulder cuff, he works doing odd jobs to keep the bills paid. He is one that truly needs it, but he hasn't figured out the system yet. It's sad. So, now I'm helping him out as best I can till he figures something out. The VA won't operate on his shoulder again because they say he is too old. He is 49 and they said it would be different if he was 29. They missed the torn disk in the first surgery. The last surgery, they just disconnected some nerves to manage pain instead of just fixing the problem.

Things are just crazy and nothing makes sense. So it goes in the world of government programs and idiotic bureaucrats. Give the money to those who whine the loudest and longest and kick the real needy ones when they are down and tell them to suck it up.

LMAO Only you would think that "consensus" would include anyone who's physically or mentally unable to care for themselves. Jeeze your heartless. LOL

The "consensus" is all about the able bodied freeloaders we have in this country. They think nothing of spending our hardearned tax dollars just as though they went out and earned it.

I may struggle to pay my bills but my tax dollar will ensure that theirs are payed.

Oh yeah. Scrap all the social programs. Works for me.
