Iranian ships moved through the Suez Canal and into the Mediterranean Sea on Saturday, the IRNA news agency reported, citing the country's navy commander, Admiral Habibollah Sayari. Sayari said the passage through the Suez Canal was only the second made by Iranian ships since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

It follows the passage of the Iranian frigate Alvand and the supply ship Kharg on Feb. 22 last year. The ships successfully moved through the canal and then docked two days later at the Syrian port of Latakia.

Israel called last year's passage a political provocation" and put its own navy on alert in response.

It was not known how many ships passed through the canal Saturday. However, Sayari said the ships were docked in the Saudi port city of Jeddah ahead of their passage through the canal, AFP reported.

Two Iranian ships -- the destroyer Shahid Qandi and the Kharg -- were docked in Jeddah two days ago

Gonna be interesting to see if Israel attacks them and then the corporate controlled media then say that the iranians attacked them first.

Well the U.S. and Israel have already set the War up to be perceived as a 'Self-Defense' action. And of course the corrupt MSM just plays along. In reality, it's actually Iran who is under threat of attack on a daily basis. They would be the ones acting in Self-Defense if there is War.

Iran says warships sailing toward the US: news agency
Mon, Feb 10, 2014 - An Iranian naval officer said a number of warships had been ordered to approach US maritime borders as a response to the stationing of US vessels in the Gulf, the semi-official Fars news agency reported on Saturday.
“Iran’s military fleet is approaching the United States’ maritime borders, and this move has a message,” the agency quoted Admiral Afshin Rezayee Haddad as saying. Haddad, described as commander of the Iranian navy’s northern fleet, said the vessels had started their voyage toward the Atlantic Ocean via “waters near South Africa,” Fars reported. Fars said the plan was part of “Iran’s response to Washington’s beefed-up naval presence in the Persian Gulf.”

The Fars report, which carried no details of the vessels, could not be confirmed independently. In Washington, a US defense official, speaking on condition of anonymity, cast doubt on any claims that the Iranian ships were approaching US maritime borders, but added that “ships are free to operate in international waters.”

The US and its allies regularly stage naval exercises in the Gulf, saying they want to ensure freedom of navigation in the waterway through which 40 percent of the world’s seaborne oil exports passes. US military facilities in the region include a base for its Fifth Fleet in the Gulf Arab kingdom of Bahrain. Iran sees the Gulf as its own backyard and believes it has a legitimate interest in expanding its influence there.

Iranian officials have often said Iran could block the Strait of Hormuz, at the mouth of the Gulf, if it came under military attack over its disputed nuclear program, and the Western war games are seen in the region as an attempt to deter any such move. Fars said the Iranian navy had been developing its presence in international waters since 2010, regularly launching vessels in the Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Aden to protect Iranian ships from pirates operating in the area.

What's the effective range of an EMP?

All you fuckers trying to start a war with Iran need to shut your fucking mouths!

You war-mongers can go to hell!

Since Iran hasn't done anything wrong, attacking them would be illegal.

I can see the Iranian ships sending rubber boats to harass US war ships 199.9 miles from the Jersey shore line. Or would the be 2.9 miles or 11.9 miles or 29.9 miles or 299.9 miles?

Washington has ‘controlling, meddlesome attitude’ toward us, says supreme leader Ali Khamenei.

Is he right?

Iran funds Hamas and Hezbollah as well as the al Houthis in Yemen.. They also periodically stir up Bahraini Shia...

I don't know where this is going because Iran desperately needs a few billion in investments to develop their oil and gas business.. They have been turned down by all the big oil companies.

It likely isn't going anywhere. They're just flexing their muscles a bit. They made a promise that they would begin sailing their Navy close to American Borders. And now they've delivered on that promise. It's a tit for tat action.

OP- Brainwashed chickenhawk Pubcrappe...more like Iran rejoining the community of nations, but new regime has to throw a sop to the hardliners. Don't get your panties in a bunch lol...

Iran has the same right as we do to put her ships on the high seas. As long as those ships do not enter territorial waters, they have the right to be there. Stupid and dumb thing for Iran to be doing at this point, but it is perfectly legal.

The world dictator(U.S.) has war ships everywhere, but when Iran has a few in the Mediterranean it's "war drums"!-McCain is that you?

I laugh when neocon warmongers ask "will bombing iran lead to a wider war?" as if bombing Iran is not an act of war.

It's also would not be an act of self-defense, but an act of aggression on our part.

And if Israel were to bomb Iran (laughable as it is at this point) it would also not be in self-defense. The stupid Menendez-Kirk sanctions bill, designed to scuttle talks and hope that Iran will be blamed for it, calls for the US to support israel if it acts in legitimate self-defence. Bombing Iran would not be legitimate, nor would it be self-defence.
