Want insurance that covers acupuncture and chiropractors?

OMG!
I find myself absolutely on the "other" side right now. I've often had problems accepting the idea that the only medical authorities are the ones the AMA approves of. There is a place for alternative medicine, including chiropractic, acupuncture, homeopathy, herbology, etc. Why should everyone be shackled to the one-size-fits-all morbid pathology that pervades traditional Western medicine?
I prefer my chiropractor for a lot of reasons. He doesn't immediately resort to cutting or heavy-duty drugs. I personally practice herbal medicine, for myself and my livestock. Somehow, I doubt my animals feel better because they have convinced themselves of the efficacy of an herbal treatment.

i hear ya.....i recently had a pretty sore shoulder at the arm socket.....i thought maybe i ripped something working....it was hurting pretty good for a week.....went to the Chiro just for the regular adjustment.....he told me before i was able to say what is hurting....."did you know your Collarbone is slightly out?".....and he grabbed my arm and pressed on the Collarbone and the pain was almost nothing.....im sure it was all in my head.....the bone clicking into place.....im sure the Orthopedic guy would have wanted to operate to put the bone back in place....

Yeah, I love it when they say "just relax"...you know, right before it seems like they twist your head off? There's a popping and you feel better right then. I have a very strong aversion to surgery.

Physical therapists do the same thing, and charge less.

after my knee surgery i was at Physical Therapy.....they dont do anything like a Chiropractor.....and this includes the people who were there who did not have surgery......

Want to provide scientific studies that verify the efficacy of chiropractic treatments? I know lots of people that will swear that homeopathy works, and others that swear that aroma therapy works, so your heartfelt defense of chiropractic quackery doesn't mean anything.

so in other words....you had a shitty Chiropractor and so they all suck....right?.....i had a shitty regular Doctor that could not even diagnose Sciatica.....guess who cleared that up for me in 5 days time?.....and i was fucking limping.....but i dont say stay away from Doctors because one sucked at his job.....i also had a irregular heartbeat that a Cardiologist was going to put me on pills to treat......i went to my Chiropractor.....he straightened my ribcage, which i felt pop into place.....never had that problem again .....open up your mind and eyes QW.....your missing a lot.....

Actually, I have never been to a chiropractor because I understand they all are con men. Why don't you educate yourself and find out what an honest chiropractor thinks of the profession?

like i said QW.....6 years into my Mailman job in the 80's i started hurting real good at the hip.....and i was limping.....i was no longer able to carry mail....i went to the Regular Doctor....this guy took X-Rays hooked me up to Electrodes,300 bucks later....nothing....my job was now in Jeopardy....he was saying i going to have to send you to a specialist.....a lady on my route had told me when this was starting go to a Chiropractor....i had never been to one and thought they were "Quacks" too.....i was delivering the Rams mail at that time....some of their guys went to a Chiro near by.....i went to him.....he took an X-Ray of my spine and said i have Sciatica......he did his thing....first visit on a Mon. pain down 50%
by Friday i was walking with no pain......same thing a few years later when i developed heart beat irregularities....regular doctor at Kaiser sends me to a Cardiologist, after EKG;s and a few other tests.....said i am going to have to take a drug to regulate this....maybe forever.....screw it, went to my Chiro....he walks in puts his hand on my chest applies pressure....oww!.....your ribcage is a little out of place.....he does his thing....problem gone ,never has returned....i will go to a Chiropractor when i have a Back,Chest or hip problems.....regular Doctors in this area...are kinda clueless....

I've found that doctors trained in classic Western medicine tend to be a bit narrow minded when it comes to unconventional treatment. They are trained to see a pathology with a defined set of treatment protocols. They also tend to be pretty territorial when it comes to non-conventional practitioners.

I agree, though, that I do not want to pay for someone else's choices. Why should I pay for someone to have children? Or get an abortion, face lift, boob job, etc? One solution would be to get government out of the insurance business and let the companies offer a wider range of coverage options, allowing individuals to select the type of treatment they prefer. We do it with our auto insurance, why not medical, too.

I already posted a link where a chiropractor recommended that anyone who wants to do what he does, and also believes in science, should go out and get a degree in physical therapy. Maybe you should find a better therapist. I know the orthopedic surgeon I saw for my tenosynovitis put me in touch with a therapist that did a better job than any quack chiropractor that would talk about manipulating my spine to help me with the pain in my wrist.

Like I said, the fact that it worked for you is no more proof of their scientific validity than the fact that homeopathy works for some people proves that diluting arsenic until there is none left, and then leaving it under a Russian Bible all night, cures nausea, even if it works for the guy down the street.

I have found that science works better than magic.

Why pay for something that you never use? Do you make a habit of buying things and never using them? Isn't that really stupid? Or are you going to try and argue you don't pay for it?

Good point. My insurance covers an ICU visit if I should get in an automobile accident. I've never used it, as I have never been in a car accident. I am going to drop that shit!.........

I suppose you are one of the idiots that believe in acupuncture, homeopathy, and reiki.

No. I don't believe in any of those things. What I do believe is that you are making a mountain out of a molehill to bitch about something that is only proximately related.

the therapist i went to have a hell of a lot of patients and there is more than one with a MD looking over them......and if you have tendinitis in your wrist my chiropractor would work on the wrist, not your back,he has already worked on my arthritic elbow.....your against Chiropractors QW.....i get that......i was leery of them too until i went to one.....one who has gotten rid of things that your sacred Doctors were bumping around in the dark on.....its hard for me to say they are Quacks when the "Quack" cured something the so called legit guys could not......

I don't want to be forced to buy insurance that supports magic. If I had know there were this many creationists that support Obamacare I might have approached the subject differently, I honestly thought progressives that love science over magic would understand the issues.

Tonosynovitus and tendinitis are not the same thing, which is why I prefer to go to people that study science over magic.

I want what works and allopathic medicine does not work for everything. Where it shines is trauma. But, for many other things, other disciplines work as well or better.

I used to be just as ignorant and closed minded as you are now but had several experiences that I simply could not explain away. It was a real eye-opener. Maybe you can find insurance that is as ignorant and closed minded as you are.

Really.

Its worth a try.

What about the insurance you currently have? Do they cover other disciplines? If so, you're paying for it.

The comment above about allopathic doctors not being open to other disciplines - That's changing, little by little. I had surgery two years ago and the surgeon prescribed Arnica beforehand. I just about fell on the floor and had to give him a bit of a hard time about it. He ended up getting a couple of books to learn more.

Someone above said that chiropractic and physical therapy are the same. Actually, they're not even close.

Science doesn't work for everything? Do you also want me to consider the possibility that Young Earth Creationism is right when I run into the fact that the science of abiogenesis cannot actually explain the beginning of life?

My point is I don't want doctors to give up on science, nor do I want the government to force me to believe in your stupid religion.

Thanks to Obamacare you can now get it.

I hope everybody that ever supported this monstrosity chokes on the stuff they have to pay for now. Please, keep telling me how I want people to die in the streets because I oppose government mandated insurance. This is the type of shit everyone who considers themselves rational should stand up and demand be excluded from insurance, not covered by it.

The chiropractors were out in force, lobbying for months to get their services included in every state’s package of essential health benefits that will be guaranteed under the new health care law.
“We’ve been in constant contact with our state chapters, just telling them, ‘Look, you’ve got to get in the room,’ ” said John Falardeau, senior vice president of government relations at the American Chiropractic Association.
The acupuncturists were modest by comparison, ultimately focusing on a few states, like California, where they had the best odds of being included.
“Our profession really didn’t have a million dollars to spend on a lobbyist,” said Jeannie Kang, the immediate past president of the American Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. Instead, they mobilized 20,000 acupuncturists and their patients in a letter-writing campaign.
Both efforts seem to have shown results. Most of the roughly two dozen states that have chosen their essential benefits — services that insurance will have to cover under the law — have decided to include chiropractic care in their package. Four states — California, Maryland, New Mexico and Washington — included acupuncture for treating pain, nausea and other ailments. It is also likely to be an essential benefit in Alaska and Nevada, according to the Department of Health and Human Services.

most people already have insurance that covers acupuncture and chiropractic.

your point?

And states could mandate insurers cover those procedures even before the ACA was passed.

your point?

No they don't, most people are smart enough not to buy insurance that covers magical thinking.

Something else you're wrong about...

Do insurance plans cover chiropractic?

Yes. Chiropractic care is included in most health insurance plans, including major medical plans, workers’ compensation, Medicare, some Medicaid plans, and Blue Cross Blue Shield plans for federal employees, among others. Chiropractic care is also available to active-duty members of the armed forces at more than 60 military bases and is available to veterans at 36 major veterans medical facilities.

But, but, but... that's "different".

Have I ever gone ballistic? Besides, you are the one that insists they should get free care.

You haven't been reading my posts. I'm sick of the Reagan SOCIALIST health care "system" we have that treats everyone a little bit but screws over everyone a whole lot.

End EMTALA now.

Make everyone responsible for their own health care bills and watch cost plummet.

I am probably the first person on this board that pointed out that the simplest way to solve the problem of having to pay for emergency care of indigent people is to get rid of EMTLA. I know I said it before you ever joined the board, so you are going to upset me by pointing out Reagan started it.

Want to try and look even dumber?

Good idea. People need emergency care but can't pay for it? Let those bastards die.
