$1.4 trillion is spent every year on tax expenditures. Eliminating those alone would not only balance the budget, but provide us with a surplus to pay down the debt and lower everyone's tax rates. Once the debt was paid off, we could lower tax rates even more.

It would have the added benefit of everyone earning identical incomes would pay identical taxes.

And it would remove a massive incentive to bribe our politicians to keep those tax expenditures in the tax code. Instant campaign finance reform!
