Unemployment ticks up to 9.1%

Understanding the new economics of world trade is the key. Many of the old rules are no longer valid.

And I predicted it would turn out this way when the experts were just predicting a 6 months downturn.
Get used to living with less folks.

Spot on...in reality we should have been living with less for 20 years, 67% of consumer spending was debt purchasing.
Didn't we learn this in the Story of the Three Pigs?

Do we really need half the shit we've been pissing way our money on?

Most of it will end up in our attics or basements before it's dragged down to the curb for it's final trip to the land fill. Sometimes people have so much shit they need to rent out those storage containers.

Hiring slowed in May, according to U. S. Labor Department, at the same time that discouraged workers stopped giving up hope. There were over 200,000 fewer people not looking for work since they thought no work was available for them.

The Great Socialist Auto Production initiative stalled since parts availability was curtailed due to the usual gamut of "freedom" disasters which Republicans like to cherish as caused by them(?)! The Spirit of Abraham Lincoln was even abroad on a different ravaged land.

Also, however, the evidence that the Ivy League Democrats are stupid did continue to advance. The stupid liberals from the Ivy League had sent the stimulus money to the state and local employees--including the teachers--who caused the downturn in the first place. Instead of creating public works stimulus, nothing was created at all.

That Spending was clearly preservative only, in nature

Now there is nothing to tax at the local level, following the unregulated largesse of the mortgage bankers--who also got stimulus money, now for nothing.

The Spending on the Mortgage bankers was clearly preservative only, in nature.

The Great Socialist Bail-out of the Auto Industry shines in comparison.

Hope comes first, then change comes afterwards.

Now the Old Fat White People, Cavorting About Naked On Other People's Yachts--Tossing Substance And Other Treasure Into The Sea, (aka the Tea Party GOP): Intend to take the Boston Tea Party example and extend that to the economy nationwide. They intend to cut the spending--which has nothing to do with creating tax relief--of the federal government. They intend to take what substance actually there is in the economy, and toss it all into the sea(?): In like manner!

The Harm-Intenders of the Ivy League--Supportive of the Law just like all the people in the German Third Reich--Created no Public Works employment. State and Local government created no Public Works Employment. The Mortgage Bankers created no State and Local, Public Works Employment, and no capital lending for mortgages or businesses to boot!

The Party of Abraham Lincoln in fact became the admired, "Reagan Trajectory!"

"Crow, James Crow: Shaken, Not Stirred!"
(Many Nations Know that first comes Seven--Then Comes 11! Many Nations Now Very Smart--Like Obama-people!)

No kiddin....at 15 years old the most expensive thing I owned was a 3-4 year old bicycle.
Today... a typical 15 year old has...
$400 TV
$300 smart phone
$400 XBox 360
$400 in XBox games
$50 DVD Player
$280 Ipod
$400 laptop

Remember when Republicans won with "Jobs, jobs, jobs"? Instead, everything turned to tax breaks for millionaires, abortion, gay rights, union busting and attacks on teachers.

If Republicans had followed up on "Jobs, jobs, jobs", this conversation would be much different. Only the Reublican leadership and most of the base don't care about "jobs, jobs, jobs". They just hate there's a black guy in the WHITE House.

Some of us did just that. I, for one, didn't finance my lifestyle with consumer debt. I've been pay-go the whole time, other than a mortgage on the abode (which I'm paying down well ahead of the term).

Oh, I use my credit cards - for convenience and consumer protection. I just pay them in full each month. There's nothing wrong with responsible use of a credit card.

:lol:and obama?

Given the size of our population and the number of jobs that can be done by cheap overseas labor, 9-10percent unemployment is the new norm for the 21st century.

As uscitizen said above, get used to living with less.

You democrats need to start living with less first. Republicans are the conservative spenders & savers. We are the ones who live on less than what we earn. We are the ones who get screwed every-time a union pension fund does not yield the 8% they promised, or loan goes bad or the Fed prints money. Democrats rarely live within their means. They are always taking from the rest of us.

I think we're on thin ice. If Moody's or S&P lowers our credit rating, then it could be that 9% UE could very be the new norm. If Obama is re-elected the same result could come to pass, due to his anti-business, anti-job policies. Or if a Repub is elected but the Dems still control the Senate or House. It looks like there will be little or no cooperation or compromise beyond perhaps the minimum, for the next year and a half. So our credit rating could get downgraded before the end of 2012. If that happens then the job of climbing out of the hole we're in would get a lot harder.

When one adds unemployment to the underemployed (you know, for example, those graduates with student loans that may not find a career opportunity until they are in their early-forties, if lucky, but are working shit-paying jobs), a conservative estimate is that 25% are currently marginally consuming in our consumer economy.
As this progresses, Dems are really gonna get re-elected in 2012 with a pitch of job creation and economic growth?
How fucking gullible do they think the American voter is?

So do you just want to concede the 2012 election now or wait until the new year?

Why would I concede to the Democrats? Granted the Republicans aren't looking great, but Obama's policies haven't worked out that well.

In any case, the labor market is improving...just very slowly and not well. No idea whose favor that will work out to politically by next year, and I certainly don't want continued poor economic news just to get rid of Obama.

I'll have what HE'S having!

That's horse poop. The new norm should be to dig in and git'r'done. Instead the new norm is to sit back and watch it go away.

This is pathetic.

Since it's impossible to determine what it will end up costing to hire anyone, nobody's getting hired. It now requires more paperwork to hire one new employee than it requires to issue an IPO.

Our government is drilling holes in the hull of the ship and bemoaning the fact that it just keeps sinking.

Every policy is insanity. There's not enough oil. Stop drilling. There's not enough jobs. Subsidize unions and then regulate the piss out of business and bring suit against Boeing. There are too many illegal immigrants. Make it illlegal to look for them.

The price of food is rising. Subsidize ethanol. Too many are unemployed. Change the way we tally up the unemployment figures. There are too few tax dollars coming in to suppport government expense. Hire more government workers.

Obama says that the tax rates must rise or we will go bust then he sign the extension of the tax cuts.

Does anyone recall when what I believe, what I say and what I do were not three distinct and separate considerations?

I hate to break it to you, but the labor market is NOT improving!

Just to accommodate the 249,000 monthly US population growth, we need 160,000 jobs every month just to break even. We are creating more unemployed than employed. The Democrats have been in control of the economy for 4-1/2 years now. Here is what they have to show for it:

As someone who lives in a small town with a majority of small businesses over large businesses let me say a few things. The first is that the larger employers like Wal Mart employ more people than the local small business, even when you start lumping them together. Small businesses first hire relatives, and then they move to friends, and then they move to friends of friends, and then maybe they will hire the general public. Most small businesses is this area have at most six employees. The second thing is that small businesses whine and cry about everything and every little tax and restriction. The reason small businesses fail isn't because they are lousy business people it is because the government made them fail. It is never their fault just ask them. The last thing is that in every venture there are owners and there are employees, not everyone can be an owner and not everyone can be an entepeneur. It seems that the employee on most threads is the one that seems to get slighted and has the blame for the economy placed at their feet. It is never the owners fault but always the employee or governement, why is that?

To start with, you're absolutely wrong.

The owners of companies are usually hard working people who are trying to build something based on a passion that they hold. When they are forced to hire employees due to the success that they have built, they do so with much consideration and planning and hesitation.

When a business fails, the owners feel that a part of them has died. It is not just a business or a job to them. It is their identity and their passion and it has been sick and finally died.

The employee sees it as a paycheck. The owner sees it as a part of himself. The employee goes down the street to find another "job". The employee can be anyone from a janitor to a CEO of a Fortune 500 Company.

The owner must cope with having failed despite having poured himself into his passion. It's crushing.

I don't care what color is in the White House if there's green in my pockets.

Why are you obsessed with the color of the guy who's failing to get the job done?

I, too, have been quite fortunate. The last time I had a balance on a credit card, Hillary Care was being debated. Now the house and the cars and everything else is paid for. Still got the property taxes, though.

As long as the Gubmint is around, you never actually own it. It's just a rental to hold the place until the tax man takes it away.
