Just when you thought the Brits couldn't get any wackier, the University of Manchester just banned clapping, and is suggesting the use of “jazz hands” instead.

Aren't jazz hands a racist holdover from the minstrel days, when white performers painted their faces black?

"Not everyone is jazzed about this new rule at the University of Manchester.

The British school’s student union has banned clapping, whooping and cheering at their events — suggesting the use of “jazz hands” instead..."

I use jazz hands every chance I get.

"Do you know why I pulled you over?"

*jazz hands

"Excuse me, sir. Have you been drinking?"

*jazz hands

I recently applied for a new job, and the interviewer was a black man. So as not to offend him I gave him "jazz hands" instead of a handshake. The interview lasted a good 4 minutes. I think it went well.
