I would - if I was in the country. However, I had an email from my aunt today - my uncle and cousin who live in FL are helping out.

However, I for one believe that if our congress starts to interfere with the internal running of a foreign owned company, then other foreign companies are going to take note and I would not doubt that many of them would cut and run or at a minimum move some of their US based assets out of the reach of the Government of the USSA,

If this were an average situation, I would agree, but BP has caused a major disaster here.

Other international corporations are generally not in danger of causing a major disaster.

Though I certainly agree that simply trying to seize the company would be a bad approach, and would probably in fact cause the effect you describe...

...legally freezing their assets due to impending legal action involving unbelievable amounts of damage caused, in order to make sure the offended parties are paid back, has legal precedence in many nations.

Looks to me like some folks think BP might not be able to make good on its debts. Looks to me like its possible the amount they owe for this disaster might wind up exceeding their net assets. If that's the case, they would likely go into bankruptcy. So my recommendation to BP is to start paying the company's assets out as dividends. First get rid of your cash, then start selling the company off. Then the shareholders will get their cut, and there will be nothing left for the people whose lives BP has ruined.
