U.S. Workers Allegedly Fired, Told to 'Train Your Foreign Replacement'

"Tucker Carlson pointed out on "Fox and Friends Weekend" that the H1-B program would seem to violate U.S. immigration law, which requires that the hiring of a foreign worker will not adversely affect the wages and conditions of U.S. workers comparably employed.

Professor of Public Policy at Howard University Ron Hira said that the tech industry in particular has tried to paint the visa program as a good deal, when in reality it's just undercutting Americans.

Hira explained that "guest workers," not immigrants, are brought in for up to six years on H1-B visas. The employer can often pay the guest workers 40 to 50 percent less than American workers.

"So there's a big incentive for employers to bring these workers in and to replace Americans," Hira said.

He added that recently terminated employees at Southern California Edison were essentially told to "train your foreign replacement."

"It's not about skills. It's not about need. It's all about the fact that [companies] can bring in these guest workers at a lot less money.""

Isn't obama here on an h1b visa?

See libs love putting Americans out of work

It means more having to turn to government since there aren't enough good jobs. They could settle for minimum wage, welfare and Obamacare, which would make Dems happy. More dependence means a step closer to tearing down capitalism and bringing in socialism.

Last Friday the House Republican Study Committee sent a letter to Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer, the Speaker of the House and Majority Leader, respectively, requesting an increase in the current H1B visa quota of 65,000 per year to 115,000. They also request a 20% yearly increase in the cap every year, assuming the previous year’s quota was met. The letter is embedded below.

I think they ought to move from California to Arkansas were labor costs and taxes will be lower (well not SC Edison California needs electricity, but the others can)

.

What a great idea. Except that Arkansas has been ranked very low in healthcare and education which sure would effect any potential current employees transferring to Arkansas.

Guess they could use the revenue boost ... And why would you transfer employees if they are cheaper in Arkansas to start with?
Not to mention housing is cheaper, cost of living is cheaper ... Gasoline is a lot cheaper.

.

There's a reason why it's cheap to live in Arkansas.

Few people want to live there. The quality of life there sucks. Education is terrible, jobs don't pay much so people can't get ahead.

It's very expensive to live on the west coast. That's because people want to live there. The quality of life is much better. Education is much better. You can see a good doctor and you're paid something close to a living wage.

It's called capitalism. Supply and demand. There's no demand and high supply of homes in Arkansas. Few want to live there. There's extremely high demand to live on the west coast so there's lower supply which means everything is going to cost more.

Capitalism. I thought you right wingers loved it.

I do love capitalism ... It allows you to understand that more expensive doesn't equate to better in all circumstances.
Personally ... I am thrilled folks with an over-inflated sense of self-importance tend to live on the West Coast, East Coast and especially in the Northwest.
It has certainly allowed me to run circles around them as far as advancing towards my ambitions without the unnecessary overhead cost.

Quality of life is subjective. If you call sitting in traffic and wasting years out of your life quality then go for it. Weather plays a BIG role on where people populate, the west coast is very temperate compared to most parts of the country.

As far as replacing workers, yep, that's capitalism. They have that right. Liberals support free and easy immigration until it takes their job.

Where does it say that guest workers should replace Americans? It's one thing to have guest workers to fill a need, but no excuse for putting Americans out of work.

You make a lot of assumptions about people. Do all liberals believe that anyone with a brain will automatically choose the west coast or that there are no good doctors in Arkansas?

The elitist liberals seem to prefer California or New York despite those being some of the worst places to live in my opinion. Many of the idiot lefties call the Midwest 'flyover country' and would rather not bother stopping here. I get tired of the liberals in Hollywood talking about fat Midwest women or how people in small towns are backwards. So, they never come here and go on believing their own hype. Their loss. I guess you'd hate living in small town, USA, even though you can buy a huge house for well under $100,000, people are friendlier, we have good hospitals and used to have the best public schools. Iowa used to be number one in education, but the liberals came along and fixed it. They are trying to fix the whole country that way.

Weather can play into a decision where to live for some people. Moving from the West Coast to Minneapolis was quite the change for me in regards to the weather.

I was born in New Zealand, raised in Southern California and then Northern California, were I also lived for quite a few years, along with living in Seattle. The company I was working for asked me to go to Minneapolis to serve a interim manager of their branch there because I had gone to the U of Minnesota for my last two years of college and graduation. They figured I wouldn't suffer the culture/weather shock, I was told. I found a manager for the company and took a job with another company based in Minneapolis because I had grown to really like it there. I just accumulated to the winter by taking up winter sports, like snowshoeing and cross-country skiing, plus I joined a club for indoor tennis.
I absolutely love living in Minneapolis and Minnesota. It's extremely clean here, there is a ton of things to do, I have season tickets for the Timberwolves and Twins, plus I go to Viking and Wild games, and my wife loves the Theater District. My kids got a very good education, my daughter with health issues received excellent care. Both graduated from the U of M and have chosen to live here. Crime is low, taxes are a tad high but I feel I'm getting what I'm paying for. Minneapolis and Minnesota are constantly being named as one of the best places to live for some very good reasons.
And to top things off, the economy is absolutely great here, one of the best in the country. And Minnesota has the best healthcare system in the country.
To me all of the above is hugely important. It's called quality of life.

There is no need. This has been an ongoing problem. They come over here, take the jobs for bs wages, move back home and open the business over seas-usually.

But in reality, most of today's H-1B workers don't stick around to become the next Albert Einstein or Sergey Brin. ComputerWorld revealed last week that the top 10 users of H-1B visas last year were all offshore outsourcing firms such as Tata and Infosys. Together these firms hired nearly half of all H-1B workers, and less than 3 percent of them applied to become permanent residents. "The H-1B worker learns the job and then rotates back to the home country and takes the work with him," explains Ron Hira, an immigration expert who teaches at the Rochester Institute of Technology. None other than India's former commerce secretary once dubbed the H-1B the "outsourcing visa."

Not everywhere is right for everyone. You like Arkansas. Great. I hope you have a great life there.

Most people don't like Arkansas. Which is why there aren't many people living there, the cost of living is so low and the quality of life isn't as good as the west coast. So I guess that leaves more room for you and people like you there. There's no shame in not wanting a good education for your kids. Nor is there shame in not caring whether you have good health care with proper access to that heath care. There's no shame in wanting to not be paid a living wage for your work and have a lower standard of life.

It's important to be happy where you live in life.

It's just personal priorities. Yours are different from mine and most of the people in America. You don't want to pay for what you use or get from society. So you want to live with less conveniences, access to health care, good schools, opportunities and lower standard of living.

Everyone should like where they live. You don't like the areas you mentioned. Great. Don't go to those places. You will probably not like it and be miserable.

Meanwhile the majority of the people in America like the places you don't. That's why millions of people live there and the cost to live there is higher and their standard of living his higher. Everyone is different.

Which is another reason why freedom works so well.
