Type of government

capitalism or a new one i read, corporatism.....which i don't see how that is any different than capitalism....

Not ever having heard this word before right now, corporatism might be capitalism with the emphasis on large companies vs. many small companies.

Wal-mart instead of several mom & pop stores on Main Street
McDonalds instead of Bob's Hamburgers (locally owned and operated eatery)

Of course, it would still be capitalism...but there would be fewer entrepreneurs, fewer owners, fewer people making profits, and more workers who are paid hourly.

That's my guess...

Instigator.

I do love a good ringside seat.
Actually I agree with Diuretic on this. The "ism" being followed by government will make certain types of programs more or less likely, but they are not in themselves any kind of "ism".

fair enough.....then how would you describe the US government, now and during the past 8 years to keep it simple.....

or are you here only to eat popcorn and hotdogs?

I would describe the type of government exactly as it has been since 1789. A constitutional Republic. I would describe the prevailing ideology as in flux from conservatism to neoconservatism and now trending leftward.
And yes, I'll have popcorn and hot dogs. But only if you're buying.

awesome reply....

so what you're saying is:

no ism means anything and words like socialism thrown at the opposing party are meaningless.....like when libs called bush a fascist......

words that have been defined under previous governments are meaningless today.....like fascism......so all those who have and will call bush a fascist are full of meadowmuffins.....

And I refer you back to my original post. :eusa_whistle:

I saw it.
But there's been too much of that agreeing stuff lately. Gotta spread it around.

You are being bearish on purpose then.

Libs calling Bush a fascist was just as accurate and meaningful as cons calling Obama a communist.

Even if true, neither ism changes the type of government we have. Isms do mean something, but not what a lot of folks think they mean.

you left out socialism.......

and if true...that is my question...what truly is the type of government we have? and if that type is what you think.....what about that type of government pushing towards another type.......say....socialism

What does a "socialist government" look like? What are its lawmaking structures? What are its procedures? How does it function? How are its members chosen?

i appreciate your questions...but you need to reread the OP....

your questions are exactly what i am looking for....you're asking the wrong person

since i've been posting on boards, a few years and really only got into politics a few years ago, i keep seeing a recurring theme.....what type of government is this program, this philosophy, this agenda.....this war....etc...

the US does not have true capitalism, doesn't have true socialism, doesn't have true communism and so forth.

when a repub runs, libs scream big money and how they hate they hate the poor, though never offering what type of government this is, except to say....capitalism or a new one i read, corporatism.....which i don't see how that is any different than capitalism....

when a lib runs for office, the screams are of socialism, communism etc.....

we have unemployment, social security, medicare, disability etc.....both parties seem to fight over them and both claim their right.....and now healthcare....

what ism are these programs?

It's all ... Stupidism.
