Trump's trade war with China

The Dow is up but that is because the Fed had pumped billions of dollars. Good luck keeping that up.

After passing the condemnation of China's actions in Hong Kong Trump isn't going to get concessions now either.
So did Trump do the right thing or not??

Greg

No. He should have addressed the U.S. businesses that moved their manufacturing there. It would have been hypocritical of him but that is what we need to do...
He is. If they want to make their goods in China, and sell them here, they have to pay the tariffs just like everyone else.
... Moving manufacturing to Thailand does not help us.
It MOST CERTAINLY does. Thailand isn't building a military specifically to challenge us. Thailand isn't threatening to sink a couple of US Aircraft Carriers.

Neither is China. Always with the silly boogeyman arguments.

I suppose you still believe Saddam had a nuclear program also?

The Left carries water for China on EVERY US/China dispute and I didn't understand this until I learned just how much Cash China plows into he Left's pocket as they rape the US economy. You guys fool no one.
"Splain, please, Zorro. How much cash does China plow into the Left's pocket as they (who? China or the Left?) rape the economy? Is that in any way related to farmers (the poor ones, not the mega ones) going belly up while on subsidies?

So what? It's still up.

The Fed Balance Sheet was at $4,452,838M when Trump took office, it is at $4,065,696M today. Over the 1,052 days Trump has been President, the Fed has REMOVED $387,242M in assets from it's balance sheet.

Over Obama's final 1,052 days, the Fed ADDED $288,996M in assets. Can you direct me to your posts during Obama's final 1,052 days where you argued that the Stock Market value was not meaningful because the Fed had Pumped $289B into the economy?

... After passing the condemnation of China's actions in Hong Kong Trump isn't going to get concessions now either.
Trump didn't "pass" them, Congress did, Trump signed them into law. Clearly our Federal Government is unified behind the position that if China tries to pull another Tienanmen Square Blood Bath that the consequence will be severe.

I expect that China will wisely show restraint with Hong Kong. Our Dec. 15 deadline is still in place to impose a new round of U.S. tariffs on some $156 billion of China’s remaining exports to the United States, but the president likes where trade talks with China are going.

China’s trade surplus for November stood at $38.73 billion. $24.60 billion, or 2/3rds of their total trade SURPLUS is with the United States. We are clearly their very best customer. And as their very best customer they are either going to agree to a verifiable deal to quit stealing our intellectual property, or they are going to see increased tariffs another $156B of their exports to us. It's very simple, quit stealing our intellectual property or pay more in tariffs, so far, they are choosing to pay more in tariffs, though Trump is continuing to assist them in finding their price point.

You can see the increase in tariff revenue since Trump started working on helping the Chinese figure out how much they are willing to pay in tariffs in order to continue stealing our intellectual property.

That spike to the right? That's Trump's work, and this graph is in $BILLIONS

https://fred.stlouisfed.org/graph/fredgraph.png?g=nKWl

If they are willing to pay $BILLIONS in tariffs in order to steal our intellectual property, why are we obligated to let them steal it for free?

The Left ALWAYS carries water for the Chinese. Now that see the $BILLIONS they push into the politically connected Left as they rape the US economy, I guess I can see why the Left always takes the Chinese side, well, except for, finally, with Hong Kong and their mass prison camps for Chinese Muslims, finally with Trump's bold leadership we see the House doing something other than trying to impeach Trump. Good for the House, finally doing a few things right!
You make the same sad mistake as many others. You seem to think that by me condemning the Feds actions under Trump I supported it under Obama. I did not. ...
Fine. Give some links to 3 posts you posted during the last 3 years of the Obama Administration while the Fed was adding nearly $300B to their balance sheet.

I wasn't here then but read this thread.

The "Obama Recovery" was phony. Markets beginning to tank again. (McCain, health care) - Politics and Other Controversies -Democrats, Republicans, Libertarians, Conservatives, Liberals, Third Parties, Left-Wing, Right-Wing, Congress, President - Page 3 - City-Data Forum

Names the same.

We are. If they want to access our consumer markets they have to pay the tariffs.

The consumers are paying the tariffs. You know this though.
Only if consumers are paying tariff driven inflated prices, and overall we are not. In fact, when our domestically produced consumer goods are not competing with Chinese purchasers, prices for us fall. Looking at it in total, since the middle of last year when Trump ramped this up, inflation has been very tame, so no, US Consumers are NOT, on balance, paying these tariffs.

Well, they seemed to have developed a sudden urge to plow Billions into the companies of the Step Son of the Seceretary of State, John Kerry; and the son of Joe Biden, Coke addled Hunter.

Diane Feinstein made Billions in Chinese investments while keeping a Chinese spy on staff.

They made off with all the personnel records in the Office of Personnel and Management during the Obama Administration.

Chinese Communist Party Funds Washington Think Tanks.

Xi-Jinping-3.jpg

China's Communist Party is intensifying covert influence operations in the United States that include funding Washington think tanks and coercing Chinese Americans, according to a congressional commission report.

The influence operations are conducted by tens of thousands of operatives who seek to use both overt and covert operations to promote Communist Party policies.

The Party's United Front strategy includes paying several Washington think tanks with the goal influencing their actions and adopting positions that support Beijing's policies.

Johns Hopkins School of Advance International Studies, is just one example, a major foreign policy education and analysis institute. They are flush with cash from the group that directs the United Front Work Department and includes a member of the Politburo Standing Committee, the collective dictatorship that rules China.

In addition to Johns Hopkins, other think tanks linked to China and influential in American policy circles include the Brookings Institution, Atlantic Council, Center for American Progress, EastWest Institute, Carter Center, and the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

Chinese Communist Party Funds Washington Think Tanks

The NBA, hell, even Lebron James jumps like a puppet when the Chinese Master barks.

Next you want to talk about all the Chinese Cash flooding into our Leftwing University system?

And as you can see with Lebron and the NBA all they have to do is narrow their eyes and out they all come parroting the latest line from the Chinese paymasters.

The only effective voice the US worker has in the Federal Government is Donald Trump.

_1044629082.jpg

From the Fake News and the Deep State we get all the propaganda from the Chinese Communists issued and reissued and endlessly repeated as "facts". Like yours, that "you know the US consumer is paying all these tariffs". Even the Fed bought it, decided we would going to an inflation spiral and started selling assets and jacking up interest rates in order to counter the coming inflation wave. Trump told them repeatedly they were wrong, yet they are so smart, they just looked at him sadly kept moving in the wrong direction until it was undeniable that they on the wrong foot. Now they are buying back assets and lowering rates. Why? BECAUSE THERE IS NO TARIFF DRIVEN INFLATION.

I understand having a point of view, but, when the data is in and the fact are otherwise, you have to adjust your thinking. Then one wonders "why are all these experts all wrong in the same direction?" Well, after seeing how much cash flows to Leftwing Politicians, Leftwing Colleges, and Leftwing Think Tanks, money talks. Look at how fast they shut the NBA up and got Lebron to step up and speak.

We live in interesting times, buffeted with broadside after broadside of fake news and false information, yet the facts are at our fingertips. You can look up the inflation numbers, wholesale or retail in about 5 seconds. So no one really has an excuse for mindlessly parrotting the Chinese line that is all we are fed.

You do realize that China runs a trade surplus? 2/3rds of it with US. If trade protection is such a bad idea, why is it that everyone else, including China engages in so much of it? And at our expense. You think all these guys could run surpluses if we didn't run deficits? We aren't seeing inflation because they are cutting their prices to cover the tariffs and it looks like they are willing to cut them a hell of a lot, keeping prices stable while flowing $Billions to the US Treasury. It's a damn fine arrangement, and I'm interesting in seeing just how much they have been marking up what they have been selling to us, because Trump keeps raising their costs, and they keep paying it. It looks like they have been making a killing off us. They rape the US worker but side tip the Left and the Deep State and the Left and Deep State parrot the Chinese line like parrots.

Keep It Up Trump! We are their very best customer and yet they refuse to quit stealing our intellectual property? Well, Trump will keep jacking up their tariffs until we see where their theft is no longer valuable to them. Apparently it's still pretty valuable to them, because they would rather pay the tariffs than quit stealing the property.

If they are willing to pay $Billions to keep robbing us, why are we under any obligation to let them rob us for free? Just because all the Left, the Deep State and the Fake News Media claim that it's our obligation to let their pay masters rob us blind?

"Consumers" aren't on the hook for the debt created by the "bail outs"?

‘We’ll see how frightened America is’ — Chinese admiral says sinking US carriers key to dominating South China Sea
OD3SSUDW3BEZDPCNBNIANM6H4A.jpg

China’s Rear Adm. Luo Yuan, the deputy head of the Chinese Academy of Military Sciences, added fuel to the South China Sea fire when he stated the key for Chinese domination in those hotly contested waters could lie in the sinking of two U.S. aircraft carriers, according to a report by Australia’s news.com.

"What the United States fears the most is taking casualties,” the admiral said, before adding that such an attack on two of the U.S. Navy’s steel behemoths would claim upwards of 10,000 lives.

Luo went on to call America’s military, money, talent, voting system and fear of adversaries the five U.S. weaknesses that can be easily exploited, according to the report.

"We’ll see how frightened America is,” he said.

This dumb bastard apparently never heard of Pearl Harbor. He has no idea the fury and hell that he would unleash if he did that. If Trump's president when he tries something like that, he can look for missiles coming through his bedroom window.

But yes, they probably don't cover Pearl Harbor much, they are use to dealing with a population they control through adverseness and pain.

Trump cutting their cash flow is probably circumventing WWII. You are welcome.

Stating the obvious. It's why we kill tens of thousands of innocent people. We have to resort to dropping bombs by drones as opposed to taking casualties ourselves. China was simply noting how one would beat us.

Well, first you are wrong. In the wake of the sinking of a couple of US aircraft carriers, our response would not be meekness, this nation would storm the recruiting centers and then rail hell and fire like they have never seen. Trump would be putting missiles through the bedroom windows of anyone at the top of the chain of command that wears a uniform.

Secondly, look at how persistently you parrot the Chinese line even over the discussion of near instantaneous 10,000 American casualties. Do you ever wonder why you do that? It's China China China on every issue. Whatever the Chinese position is, why, the American Left, Deep State and Fake News Media is all for it!

What is it that you are complaining about?

Trump demonizing the wrong entity. It is not the fault of the Chinese but the fault of the businesses that relocated there. They are the ones that built China up. One of these businesses being Trump's. He sure likes to complain about a lot of things he himself is guilty over.

It's the goods they are producing there and selling here that are subject to tariffs, he is targeting exactly the right entity.

US corporations, located in China, are the folks conducting industrial espionage against us? Are you sure?
