An expected approach and a valid request. I'm no lawyer, but I suppose the issue I would raise as a lawyer is, that he has denied any wrong doing and since he was democratically elected by the citizens of the U.S, there should be some Executive Privilege so that he can answer the questions in writing. Unless they can point to any illegal voting or hacking that turned the election in Trumps favor. Which as far as I am concerned is the crux of the issue, and that which Americans are concerned with. No hacking or direct voting by a foreign power, than let's handle this with an eye on protecting the Will of the American people.

What is wrong with written questions? Even Mother Theresa would be ill advised to meet with such skilled prosecutors, you can be destroyed on a technicality.
