Then let the market decide, if people want the high mileage cars they'll buy them. If they want a gas guzzler they'll buy those. But as I understand it, those mileage and emission standards make the cars and trucks more expensive to build and therefore more expensive to buy. Which means people in the bottom half of the income sprectrum have a harder time buying a car/truck. Seems odd, the liberal dems always squawk about helping the middle and lower class but are only too happy to raise prices on cars and energy that mainly impacts those same folks in a bad way.

I've seen one Prius this month. Trucks and SUV's are the norm here. There is a huge market for those ... but not for hybrid or electric.
