After a few years of teaching 5th-grade math or English, they were competent. But as I moved up in grades, more lay teachers were brought in who had formal teaching education. Simply repeal all truancy laws.
Teachers have job protection from such laws. If you cannot home school or afford a private school you have to send your kids to Public school.
Let the parents have control over their kids as they know better what is good for the kid.
When teachers have to work to earn students or will force then and the schools in general to change.
