Those who are critical of teachers should simply teach. Fix it. Yet they don't want to give up a much better salary.

There is a much more intelligent way to fix it.

Simply repeal all truancy laws.

Teachers have job protection from such laws. If you cannot home school or afford a private school you have to send your kids to Public school.

Let the parents have control over their kids as they know better what is good for the kid.

When teachers have to work to earn students or will force then and the schools in general to change.

They are. They are baby sitters in many schools and a waste of resources. True socialism will make them good comrades when their salaries, benefits and pensions are cut by at least one third and retirees the same. For the motherland!
