The only mistake Trump has made, is by allowing the smear machine to finally gain a foot hold on the American's mindset, by allowing a fake investigation to open the doors to many crimes not related to the charge of the investigation in which was aimed at him for political purposes, and allowing the investigation in the the attempt by Mueller to make Trump a much more worse foe than they (the voters) had in the Clinton political machine in which everyone knows was corrupted and/or compromised big time when it was run against Trump.
