This Should Be Stopped Whatever The Means

The ICANN is located in CA and subject to American law.

This is a non-issue.

Simply noncompliance and a run through the courts would would probably suffice since goober has but six months left.

An Internet Giveaway to the U.N.

I don't know. There are other aspects, that we can't control. China has an alternate DNS control, that has grown dramatically outside the country. Similarly, other countries have alternate DNS systems as well. It was a matter of time, before someone had to release control.

Now I'm not sure the U.N. is the best solution, but at some point we will have to have some mediation between all the different systems around the world. That's a given. It would have to happen at some point. There would have to be some.... semi-neutral arbitrator between all the competing around the world.

This is a huge issue. A world government in control of what you read, while having the control to read whatever you type, your facebook, your everything. Where you shop on line, what you buy, what you spend. You won't be able to buy or sell that they won't know about it. Bank online? They'll know that too. Then they'll make it "easier" to buy or sell by doing away with that dirty old money you have to carry around, and they'll just chip you at birth, and plug you into the International Internet of Brussels. Whose data mining shop is in Utah. Where a dossier of everyone is already being implemented. There is no American law that will trump international law. Set one more UN representative in the White House and they will make sure of it.
Jake you should be able to discern what is coming.

Another issue for the rubes to look stupid and be on the wrong side of history about. How could they possibly pass up the chance?

If you think UN control of the Internet is a good idea, it is YOU who is the rube.

If you think the UN is going to somehow control the internet, then you're one of the dumbest, most embarrassing motherfuckers in the world. The perfect Trumpfag.

If it's handed to them, what's to stop them?

"Dumb" is not a word I would toss about, were I you.

It's not being handed to them. So "dumb," is a word that's very much in play when talking to you.

So. Who will control it?

C'mon, make us laugh.

The wrong side of history. Good God, think for yourself. You know our government has meetings to come up with buzz words for the ignorant masses to regurgitate right? The wrong side of history. That's what Obama said we'd be on if we didn't embrace the Muslim "Spring". Sounds all nice an new doesn't it. The Muslim Spring.....sort of rolls of the tongue. And doesn't stimulus package sounds so much better than pay off? The next time you hear a word used by 2 different politicians at the same time, know that you are being brainwashed.

So, at the end of the day, you should have a clear goal of thinking outside the box to push the envelope and bring to the table a sustainable wheelhouse of diversity going forward on the right side of history..... :cuckoo:

How will this new authority be abused, and how will it affect you?

As always, please be clear and specific and avoid using bumper sticker slogans. The consequences of this sound serious, so I think we need to know exactly what the consequences will be.

Not exactly.
Sort of yes, and sort of no.

You remember the old Ham-radios? Where people had their competing ham radio stations, and people talked to random other people, for no other reason, than because they could?

Now if you can imagine Ham Radio with the ability to send pictures, that's the internet.

For you to complain that the government is listening in on what you do over the internet, is exactly the same as you getting on a Ham Radio transmitter, and talking to people, and then complaining "You mean the police could be recording my radio transmission???"

Same thing. Your computer, phone, and every other internet device, is like a giant Ham Radio transmitter.

The people who run this forum right now.... they have your computers IP address (the address that goes straight to your home), on file. If they wanted to, and had the software ability, they could trace it back to you, and me.... and everyone.

Now this is true, RIGHT NOW. Without anything changed.

Nothing you do online is hidden completely. See, when you send information over the internet, most of it isn't encrypted at all. It's sent over in raw readable data, just like getting on a Ham Radio and saying stuff with your voice.

Now the government can't actually prevent you from getting to a website.... at least not under the current system. That can't. Pirates Bay, the pirate web site, has been in existence since 2003. They have been making pirated software, movies, and music, and anything else, free for over 13 years.

Nearly every government has pushed, or made laws banning access to Pirates Bay. It still exists, and everyone can access it.

This is because the way that internet was designed from the start. The entire concept was built around the idea of a directed attack, even nuclear attack. How can we keep a communication system running, even whole sections are wiped out in a nuclear attack? Well, by having a completely decentralized, non-dependent Protocol.... as long as there is any connection, from point A to point B, then you can reach it.

There is no way, to isolate one section of the network, from any other.

But that doesn't even have to do with the topic of this thread. Domain Name Server, is a separate thing.

When you type in Amazon.com into your internet browser, the browser sends a message to the Domain Name Server. So your computer says to the DNS "Hey, what's the address to 'amazon.com'?". The DNS sends back an address. In this case "54.239.17.6". Your computer then sends a web page request to "54.239.17.6", and Amazon pops up on your computer.

Now if the DNS was taken down by government, it would be horribly anoying, but you could still get to Amazon, or any other web site. You would just need to know it's address. If you know it's address is 54.239.17.6, you can still get to Amazon with a DNS at all. Obviously the DNS makes it easier, since you can remember Amazon.com, more than "54.239.17.6".

However, like Pirates Bay, the government actively bans you from connecting to Pirates Bay. Even if the DNS send back the address, many companies block your computer from connecting to it.

But that's actually impossible. You can't prevent connections. You just have to route around the block. Again, the Internet is designed to be decentralized. There is no central control to block any specific thing.

What you do there is you route through a proxy server, and connect to whatever censored server you want.

It's like the migrant crisis in Europe. Every time they closed off one route, they would back up and go a different route. Macedonia, Libya, Morocco to Spain, Turkey to Hungry, now some are going all the way through Russia.

As long as there is a way, they'll simply route around the block.

Same thing. The government can try and block every web site they want, but as long as there is a network connection, people can route around the blocks. This is why Pirates Bay is still active after 13 years.

The entity is based in LA and subject to state and federal laws.

The only issue here is how it is being used to make an issue that is not an issue.
