There's just no excuse for this

I got pay-walled and couldn't read the article, but as I recall it was a uniquely bad situation. The person they went to arrest had a gun, fired some shots, and was dispatched. THEN other people in the house started shooting, which caused the multiple casualties. This is a case of lightning striking twice in the same place. It is not something anyone would have anticipated.

If only felons weren't allowed by law to purchase guns. That would have prevented this whole thing. Or if shooting a peace officer brought one closer to the death penalty.

O yeah, we already have that. Lot of good it did.
There ain't nothing to report yet.

Time and timing was all that was needed.
The US Marshals should have just stayed outside his house, when the idiot HAS to go somewhere, stop him in his vehicle.........blocks down the road.
Going up to any building, when you're looking for someone, puts the leverage on them.
Too much of this shit going on, he could have been taken with two cars and 4 officers.
Instead four officers are dead.

Gee, maybe it has to do with the fact that they actually control who can get a gun!
Nope. It has to do with them being a nearly all white society.

Why isn‘t gun violence high in Rhode Island or Idaho?

By your reasoning Switzerland should have sky high gun violence. But oops, their crime rates are lower than Germany’s.

This didn't just go bad This was badly executed. Dream all you want of a world without guns You're never going to have it.

We have to deal with the hand that we're given. I could agree with you or disagree with you on the gun issue but it still wouldn't make any difference to the reality of today's world. There's more to this than simply guns and bad guys. There is a serious deficit in the way this was carried out.
Let the victims of gun crime sue the gun makers, you'll be AMAZED how fast the gun industry cleans up their act.

No, the problem here is lefty prosecutors.

When criminals are found with illegal guns, they don't enforce the laws we already have.

Chances are, this guy obtained his gun illegally, like they all do. When criminals obtain their guns illegally, they get a slap on the wrist. "CASH BAIL." etc.

This is the fault of the left, NOT THE RIGHT. These folks, when found in violation of the law, need to be put away for a good long time, easy peezy. . BUT NO. . .

Lefty prosecutors and politicians, in cahoots with criminals, have an agenda, use criminals, and illegal guns, to strip the rights of law abiding guns owners.

GTFO of here with yoar bullshit.
Hey, Conspiracy boi, we lock up 2 million people. We have another 7 million on probation and parole, and we have 70 million with police records. We can't simply lock up everyone who MIGHT do something bad.

His crimes are B&E, gun possession, and drug violations. All bad stuff, but not bad enough for life in prison.

Also, this guy had what is described as a "high powered rifle". Not exactly the kind of thing you can trade on the street. Or you shouldn't be able to.

How about everyone else who shouldn't have them.

Let's assume Hughes didn't walk into a store and buy one.

Someone did.

Maybe one of the two females that were in the house with him. Maybe someone else.
That's probably true

The people involved in this crime;

"The shooting began when a U.S. Marshals Task Force attempted to serve a warrant for firearm possession by a convicted felon. During a Monday evening press briefing, authorities said the recipient of the warrant was the one who initially opened fire. That suspect, who was later identified as 39-year-old Terry Clark Hughes, Jr., was killed in the shootout, police said."

"Police believe two shooters may have been involved. They said two persons of interest, a 17-year-old and a woman, were taken to the police station for further investigation.. . . "

And you are wrong.

We need to do what it takes to make the nation safe.

Your solution is to make more laws. If we are not going to enforce the laws we have? No point in making more.

If the guy were serving thirty years for illegal possession of a gun he shouldn't have? This wouldn't have happened.

End of story, no need for moar guns laws.

America is the only industrialized democracy that has this problem. All the rest limit who can own a gun or ban them outright. They don't need to lock up millions of people, either.

It depends how you enforce the law. We don't have space to lock up everyone caught with a gun. But we can take the guns, and we can sanction whoever sold him the gun to start with.

It's a pure cost benefit analysis. It costs $50,000 a year to lock up a prisoner for one year.

Your average murderer only serves 13 years.

We don't have space to keep any fool caught with a gun.

Yup. We have a completely different history and culture. It is based on liberty and freedom. The people are on control, not the ruling elites, as such, certain trade off are going to need to be made, sorry you authoritarian prick. You need to stop living in fear, and stop needing to try to control everyone.

We have plenty of space, tons of it. Very few nations have more. Russia? Canada? Not many others have more realeste. Lot of space.
But we can take the guns, and we can sanction whoever sold him the gun to start with.
Nope, no we can't. He wasn't sold the gun. You will find, he stole it. And we won't ever find out who sold it to him. That isn't how the black market works you nob gobbler.

We aren't getting rid of the Second Amendment.

Of course we do you lawless idiot.

Uh, we aren't terribly "Free" if we have to build our whole society around a gun-nut culture. From militarizied police to active shooter drills in our kids' schools, when does this "Freedom" come in.

There's no compelling reason to let nuts buy guns. Period.

We have plenty of space, tons of it. Very few nations have more. Russia? Canada? Not many others have more realeste. Lot of space.

Are you willing to spend 70% of your income in taxes to maintain the kind of Prison-industrial complex you want. We already 150 billion a year locking people up, just 2 million of them.

Nope, no we can't. He wasn't sold the gun. You will find, he stole it. And we won't ever find out who sold it to him. That isn't how the black market works you nob gobbler.

We aren't getting rid of the Second Amendment.

We don't have to get rid of it. Just recognize that it applies to "the Militia" that no longer exists. Then it becomes as largely meaningless as the third amendment.

I doubt he "stole" it. My guess is he probably used a straw buyer.

Well? Here is your problem. Either keep them locked up, or execute them. duh.

Executions are barbaric, and also impractical. it takes 20 years and millions of dollars to execute someone, and one out of ten times, we have to let them go after we find out they are innocent.

The national media have been almost silent on this outrageous murder of four law enforcement officers.

And we know why.

President Biden will NOT be going on TV to express sympathy for the officers' families.

And we know why.

Yup, it’s terrible. This kind of thing is going to happen.

Conservatives, what’s your solution to prevent these kinds of incidents?
