The Egyptians had features similar to today's Somalians, Eritreans, and Ethiopians. We also know that such features are natural within sub-saharan Africa rather then being the product of "race mixing" as it was once thought before. I believe personally that these characteristics are products of the desert. Similar characteristics can be found in the features of the Australian natives.

Race wasn't so much of an interest to Ancient Egyptians. We do know however that they are immigrants from the south (Nubia/Cush) rather then the north. This is supported both by historical and biblical evidence. Egyptians were listed as decendants of Ham, rather than Shem (where the term "semetic" comes from).

Take that with what you want. Personally I think the old testament does a pretty good job of recording genetic history and human studies as a whole (what we as human beings should and should not eat) so I take it more or less at face-value in such matters. Not to say everyone should, just saying it's a personal preference. If your going to use it, it's pretty consistant with science give or take a few chapters and if your reading it with the understanding that your reading stories told by men from over 2,000 years ago.
