‘The water table is dropping all over the world’: NASA warns we’re on the path to global drought

Having crapped out on peak oil, enviromarxists invent peak water

it just NEVER ceases. day after day they come at us with this globull warming, when that didn't work and they couldn't FOOL you with that. they went and changed the name to CLIMATE CHANGE. I mean really how the hell do these people fall for this scam. and then you don't bow to them. THEY go around and call you all kinds of names: from denier, flat earther, anti-science.

WASHINGTON — Drought-stricken California is not the only place draining underground aquifers in the hunt for fresh water.

It’s happening across the world, according to two new studies by U.S. researchers released Tuesday.

Twenty-one of the world’s 37 largest aquifers — in locations from India and China to the United States and France — have passed their sustainability tipping points, meaning more water is being removed than replaced from these vital underground reservoirs. Thirteen of 37 aquifers fell at rates that put them into the most troubled category.

“The situation is quite critical,” said Jay Famiglietti, senior water scientist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory and the studies’ principal investigator.

And it’s difficult to see it getting better soon. These groundwater reserves take thousands of years to accumulate and only slowly recharge with water from snowmelt and rains. Now, as drilling for water has taken off across the globe, the hidden water reservoirs are being stressed. Underground aquifers supply 35 percent of the water used by humans worldwide. Demand is even greater in times of drought. Rain-starved California is currently tapping aquifers for 60 percent of its water use, up from the usual 40 percent.

It's an easy fix. Don't build huge cities in the desert and build desalination plants near the oceans. Problem solved. BTW with desal you actually CAN build

big cities in the desert.

The fact that we have flooding in some areas doesn't mean that we're not in danger of running out of water.
Some people were so concerned that we were leaving our children and grandchildren such a large debt but they don't seem to be concerned that we may be leaving our children and grandchildren a world with no water.

Since the earth is 70% covered by water, and the water cycle replenishes water on a continuous basis, the idea of 'peak water' may seem strange for most people.

Glaciers are melting and oceans are rising, which means water will be more plentiful. But it is the location of the water that matters. Shortages in the wrong places could lead to food shortages, famine, and starvation in those regions, and effect the economic future of nations.

Many politicians have ignored resource issues for the last 30 years of debt- financed good times with relatively low prices for all natural resources and commodities.

We drink on average four litres of water per day, in one form or another, but the food we eat each day requires 2,000 litres of water to produce, or 500 times as much. Getting enough water to drink is relatively easy, but finding enough to produce the ever-growing quantities of grain the world consumes is another matter.
The real threat to our future is peak water Lester Brown Global development The Guardian

"We already use more groundwater during drought when less surface water is available so if drought is more frequent, there is less time for that aquifer to rebound between drought events," Richey said. "Parts of the world with increased likelihood for flooding could also have more severe water stress since floods happen so quickly we aren't able to capture the water and store it for future use."

Talking to the Washington Post, UCI professor and NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory scientist Jay Famiglietti was more blunt: "The water table is dropping all over the world. There's not an infinite supply of water."

oh boy, ANOTHER sky is falling omg we are all going to DIE..... if we don't throw our money at these Politicians in governments all over the world so they can SAVE US ALL

It's a freaking religion with these alarmists. "The end of the world is nigh" crowd. Homer seems to be working for the IPCC these days.

How the hell did ANYONE survive the Dust Bowl. Is this what we are paying this Government for? TO GO around and scare the shit out of us EVERY time we turn around. ? If so I call for DEFUNDING about half of them

people ADAPT. if not then you go the way of the dinosaurs

Stephanie, the Dust Bowl caused the largest migration in American history. Tens of thousands of Americans abandoned their homes and attempted to find better conditions elsewhere. Over 500,000 people were made homeless. And, I assure you, some people, some children, some elderly did NOT survive it.

"People adapt..." Jesus, besides being ignorant, you are one heartless bitch.

It can fairly easily be made undrinkable - at least without significant cost.

Groundwater depletion has been a concern in the Southwest and High Plains for many years, but increased demands on our groundwater resources have overstressed aquifers in many areas of the Nation, not just in arid regions. In addition, groundwater depletion occurs at scales ranging from a single well to aquifer systems underlying several states. The extents of the resulting effects depend on several factors including pumpage and natural discharge rates, physical properties of the aquifer, and natural and human-induced recharge rates. Some examples are given below.

The depletion of aquifers is a very serious problem, on which will cost us dearly in the near future.

Damn you CrusaderFrank -- You make a crack about "peak water" and the tribal witchdoctors STEAL your line... :eusa_naughty:

But I can tell you, lowering the water table in New Orleans or Miami would be a good thing.

So that it will instantly refill with undrinkable salt water?

Great plan.

Guess you've never lived there. FLAcaltenn has. Coastal water tables are mostly ALL undrinkable. We drill to irrigate lawns and hope the ghastly high sulfur content dont turn your white house yellow. ALREADY to salty..

You go inland and drill a bit deeper -- you get drinkable water. Most of the pure springs like you see at the attractions are well inland.

So if GRACE is identifying the Gulf Coast and Florida as "deficit" areas, they better understand they MIGHT be scaring folks about water disappearing that was never drinkable anyway... Dont know. Don't think they do either...

"Heartless"? How many do you think your environmental policies will kill if you can get them adopted? Look in the mirror the next time you level that charge bucko.

PLEASE take this government away from this progressive/democrat party AND never give them control of it ever again

every damn day it's the sky is falling with them. remember their motto. Never let a good Crisis go to waste. and if there isn't one, CREATE ONE

NASA's papers forget to look at water cycles of the earth. Aquifer replenishment has skyrocketed this year in the US due to heavy rains.. Funny that they dont mention this when they are promoting the next 'sky is falling' piece of garbage.

The moment they start name calling they have lost the argument. Reasonable people understand that only a fool uses this type of distraction and they then know that what they are spouting they cannot prove or defend.

I have started to ignore several of these kind of fools here now..
