In order for someone to lie, what they say must be false. Trump said that Comet had better hope that there were no tapes of their conversation. He did not say that he had tapes. He later said that there were no tapes to his knowledge. Where was the lie? There was never a lie. Was it a bluff? Absolutely! A damn good one too because it served a purpose.

Your reaction to this masterful stroke of brilliance was being butthurt because it let Trump make Comey tell the absolute truth when he testified. Comey could not take a chance that there was a recording of their conversation because if he lied before Congress, and Trump produced a recording, Comey's ass would have been in a sling and no one would ever trust anything he said again.
