I'd love to know why you call it Republican Capitalism, lol. It was invented by the Dutch in the 1600's fyi. Also the living standards for most people (non-wealthy) in the United States actually really sucked up until the late 1940's or 1950's.

Anyway, yes capitalism can be a good thing for certain products and services. The main issue with non-tertiary education is that we as a society have accepted the philosophy that every child deserves an education, not just the children of wealthy people. Most of the developed world has followed this philosophy as well.

If you're going to have a demand that must be met 100% (or as close to it as you can get) then you need Public education. If you are going to have Public Education it should be separate from private education...that is, tax money shouldn't be taken away from Public Education for the benefit of Private Education. If the rich people want to send their kids to a decked out, high tech private school, let them. They still need to pay their share for having an educated populace around them each day.
