The US military is asking the public for help in locating a missing $80 million F-35 stealth fighter jet that disappeared

🤣 Oh my god. This story just gets more insane!

stealth fighter was put on autopilot when pilot ejected over North Charleston

Dailymail as a source? I looked at it. It's it's own source. It didn't cross to anything remotely military. It didn't take me too long to find the first flaw in the article where it claimed that a F-35 crashed at the runway and burst into flame. Here it is right after the crash. You will note that it didn't "Burst" into flame.

At Bitburg, AB in Germany we had a F-15 do about the same thing. The pilot lost control for whatever reason, the bird stalled and it hit the runway hard enough to bend the airframe. The Pilot ejected before the first bounce. Like the F-35, we shipped out F-15 back on a flatbed in parts.

I imagine that the fighter was left on AP so it would clear the residential area safely without the pilot. The altitude was probably lower than the surrounding remote areas and it just flew into the hills and forest fast enough to dig a 50 ft hole. If it hit a swamp then it's buried and damned hard to find, if it can even be found. This was a F-35B which is the most dangerous of the 3 types. This is why it's had 1 major crash and this one.

This is absolutely bizarre.

SOP. When one is lost and you don't know why, the Fleet must be taken off the line and inspected before it's released if nothing is found. It ain't like a car. Run out of Gas in your Car and you just leave it beside the road and go get gas. Run out of Gas in a Plane and you ain't just walking to the nearest Air Port for Gas.

fair point.

I recall when the ValueJet crashed in the Everglades around 1996. People saw the crash from a distance but they had trouble finding it because it was immediately swallowed up by the water. The floating plants and shallow water just closed over the site. It hit the ground/water at over 500 mph and just disintegrated.

They've found some of the plane up in Williamsburg County.

WILLIAMSBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - Parts of a missing F-35 military jet have been found after an extensive search, the Florence County sheriff confirmed late Monday afternoon.

Sheriff T.J. Joye could not provide information on exactly where the parts were found, but Bartells Road in Indiantown, which is near Hemingway, is blocked off, WMBF reported.

Joint Base Charleston officials have not yet confirmed the discovery of the plane.

The Florence County Sheriff’s Office and other agencies have helped in the search for the military jet. Joint Base Charleston said search teams used both ground and air assets to find the expensive piece of military equipment.

The search began after a pilot ejected from the aircraft after what the base described as a “mishap.”

Boy, you sure do take out the air out of the trolls sails on this one. Well, us comedians will still be employed.

So wha it shitty software? That whole bird is run by computers, if it goes haywire a pilot has no chance.

So it was either that or a diversity hire or vaccident, but vaccidents usually end up with pilot blackout and crash.

It could be electrical, electronical, hydraulic or any number of other things. 2 in 9 years. The lawn dart lost a bunch more than that the first year as did the Eagle. There has been zero losses for the A and the C. And the B model, in exercises, has run up a score of 24 to zip against aggressor F-5Es, F-16Cs and F-18Es. The A has a 20-1 record during Red Flag. Most of the "Kills" never even knew the F-35 was in the area.
