A 76-year-old Munich woman has been improving her pension for years by collecting returnable bottles - now she is in legal trouble because of this. According to the Munich newspaper tz, Deutsche Bahn has filed criminal proceedings against the pensioner for trespassing.
The background: Until two years ago, the woman regularly rummaged through Munich Central Station collecting bottles. This displeased the railway, which issued a house ban against the bottle collector. Now the disabled elderly lady was stopped again in the station.
According to tz, due to her hip problems, she had only wanted to take a shortcut through the station hall. On the way, however, she took an empty bottle of beer with her - and was promptly caught by the same railway employees who had forbidden her to collect at the time. "I went through the station hall with my walkator, just came out of the hospital, and then the two men on the train stopped me, grabbed me by the arm, pulled me out of the main station with the walkator, and I had to throw the beer bottle back in," the tz quotes the lady. According to the report, the woman is now to pay a fine of 2000 euros.
