The quality of threads and debates has dropped on this board

I agree with Gramps and I think it is because there is more of an attack mentality around here, rather than a discuss mentality. Too many people are more interested in being right and not enough in broadening their minds.

How is one supposed to debate someone who refuses to believe what every single scientific body on the planet regards to be true, instead opting for a conspiracy theory amongst world scientists?

How is one supposed to debate with someone who refuses to admit deregulation caused the financial meltdown and subsequent recession.

How is one supposed to debate with someone who says "Government cannot force you to pay for something that violates faith or beliefs. Govt has no right to do this."?
Not only can Government force you to pay for something that violates your belief, they can fucking ship your ass off to WAR to make you FIGHT AND DIE for something that violates your beliefs!

How can one debate with a class of people who embrace ignorance, refuse to take responsibility for their actions and fundamentally misunderstand how this country works on a BASIC LEVEL?

I tend to disagree. There has never been true debate. Just name calling. And, yes, I'm guilty.

I think if you want to have a better level of debate, then start by personally offering a better level of debate.

I have started multiple threads lately about serious topics with valid points contained within. They just drop like rocks on the list. I presume because they're not controversial enough. The extreme idiots on this site seem to be able to direct the debates with their nonsensical threads.

.....And, the rest of ours get "relocated" to The Romper Room.

It is fun to be dismissive of some bullshit commentary -- or even of entire threads dedicated to bullshit.

But it is also occasionally fun to engage in some real discussion. You know the drill (and I've seen you do it, too, pal): Take up a side of a discussion and go about the task of establishing the superiority of your particular position by resorting to facts (with links) and analysis and logic.

Sometimes -- and maybe we have entered the political silly season already -- when the campaigns get too loud and partisan punditry gets too thick (as in a steaming pile of shit), the utility of a Board such as this is that banter serves a useful purpose, too.

Your post shows one of the main problems. You refuse to accept the possiblity that you could be wrong.
1st. Every "scientific body on the planet"? Are you sure about that? Can you prove that?
Same goes with your second point. Can you prove it was deregulation alone that causes the problems.
3rd. Do you understand the seperation of church and state? And the 1st amendment? Government has no right to tell a religous institution how to operate. As for war there is such a thing as conscientious objector.

You don't want to debate. You just want to force people to accept your views and opinions.
