During a June 10th, 2008, interview with CNBC, then-candidate Obama said this:

HARWOOD: As difficult as this is for consumers right now, is, in fact, high gas prices what we need to let the market work, a line incentive so that we do shift to alternative means of energy?

Sen. OBAMA: Well, I think that we have been slow to move in a better direction when it comes to energy usage. And the president, frankly, hasn't had an energy policy. And as a consequence, we've been consuming energy as if it's infinite. We now know that our demand is badly outstripping supply with China and India growing as rapidly as they are. So...

HARWOOD: So could these high prices help us?

Sen. OBAMA: I think that I would have preferred a gradual adjustment. The fact that this is such a shock to American pocketbooks is not a good thing. But if we take some steps right now to help people make the adjustment, first of all by putting more money into their pockets, but also by encouraging the market to adapt to these new circumstances more quickly, particularly US automakers, then I think ultimately, we can come out of this stronger and have a more efficient energy policy than we do right now.

SO.. Let me see if this makes sense..
Obama thinks if we "put more money into their pockets" that can make up the difference in increased gas prices.

SO WHEN will the price of fuel go down?

Seriously.. you supporters .. consider..
A) Obama WANTED and WANTS gas prices to go up!
WHY? Cause he thinks that will create alternate fuel sources.
In the mean time Obama steals money from the "rich" to give to the "poor" so the
poor can buy higher priced GAS!!!

ONLY in the convoluted mind of a Socialist!

Obama is right. The higher gas prices go the more open consumers will be to alternative energy and electric vehicles.

This is a market driven idea. I don't know why any "conservative" would be against it.

Nice spin. Doesn't change the facts of the op.

Let's see.

How much does speculation drive up oil prices? By roughly 20 percent, or between $21.40 and $26.75 a barrel, Goldman suggested. Every million barrels of oil held by speculators results in a price rise of 8-10 percent. Not surprisingly, such increases coincide with record levels of speculation in oil futures, Commodity Futures Trading Commission officials note. Since June 2008, the number of energy contracts held by such investors has risen 64 percent.
When Goldman Sachs Warns That Speculation Drives Oil Prices, Listen Up - CBS News

H.R. 1, the House Republican-approved spending plan for the remainder of 2011, cuts the CFTC budget by nearly one-third, which would force the agency to lay off nearly 30 percent of its staff. CFTC Chairman Gary Gensler has said that if the GOP budget cuts were implemented, “We would not be able to police…or ensure transparent markets in futures or swaps.”
GOP Admits Speculation Is Increasing Oil Prices, Moves To Gut Speculation Watchdog Anyway | ThinkProgress

So, you blame Obama for high gas prices, yet ACTIVELY CUT the budget for enforcement against what could account for 20% of the total cost?

There's a DEMOCRAT sponsored bill that would require commodity traders to be able to TAKE DELIVERY of what they're purchasing.

Now all you'd have to do to make your original contention hold water is show what Obama did that is driving up prices at LEAST 20%!!!

I'll just sit here and wait while you CONZ take ANY responsibility for your own actions.

Because it's dishonest. A market driven economy has to do with supply and demand. If you cut the supply on purpose so you can sell your shit and you have to lie about what you're doing to keep from losing your job then you're just a corrupt asshole. Everything Obama says Wall Street is.

Of course high gas prices aid his alternative fuel agenda.

Well in his mind anyway.

Its communism, government has NO RIGHT OR BUSINESS telling people who or what kind of energy to use,i.know alot of truckers, and this is killing the transportation industry.

obama is not suicidal, and it's suicidal for a president to have higher gas prices in an election year....he wants to get elected, so his stance for this election year, is to have lower gas prices, so he can win his reelection....

next year, he could switch off in support of green, but this election year, he needs gas prices to be lower, and he KNOWS this, so your contention falls flat healthmyths.

so! this is why he refused the pipeline, and why he gave Brazil 20 billion of our dollars to explore for oil and why he shut down drilling in the Gulf?? Really? how damn cool is that?

he didn't refuse the pipeline, he threw out the bogus republican cut off for a decision that they slipped in to an appropriation's bill. He did not give Brazil 20 million of our money this year nor did he shut down drilling in the gulf this election year.

try again!

so we get reamed either way.....WTF does this idiot think he is doing.....?

The problem is how spoiled Americans are.

If some of my coworkers could drive thier car right up next to thier cubicle, and park it, they would. Have you ever seen some idiot drive around a parking lot furiously, for twenty minutes, trying to find a parking spot twenty feet closer to the door than one they passed up twenty times?

Mass transit, if everybody used, would have enough revenue to expand it's service areas, so it would go everywhere. When I lived in China, and Turkey, mass transit worked wonderfully. You didn't have car payments, inusrance payments, DMV fees, traffic tickets, or crowded parking lots. When my wife, I, and friends would go out to bars, nobody had to be a designated driver. When we needed to go out of town, or some kind of holiday, we'd just rent a car for the weekend. It was way cheaper than owning a car.

Gas prices wouldn't be near the problem they are now if we weren't so dependent on it. That's why the long term investment, without short term cost effectiveness, is critical to get us off the Saudi, Venezuelan, and Nigerian teets
