“Recent randomized controlled trials document that low-carbohydrate diets not only decrease body weight but also improve cardiovascular risk factors. In light of this evidence from randomized controlled trials, dietary guidelines should be re-visited advocating a healthy low carbohydrate dietary pattern as an alternative dietary strategy for the prevention of obesity and cardiovascular disease risk factors.”

Darn! Instapundit give us a link and then we discover we've got to pay $36 to read the entire piece. If you want the link, here it is: The Low-Carbohydrate Diet and Cardiovascular Risk Factors: Evidence from Epidemiologic Studies

This is pretty much common sense. Too many carbs are a bad thing. Carbs turn to sugar which then turns to fat. High carb diets are the most likely factor in the massive increase in type II diabetes. That does not mean we should go completely without carbs. Carbs also are used for energy, and if you follow a proper exercise regimen, you need carbs to give you fuel for working out. Bottom line is that we should be eating a bit more protein and a bit less of the carbs. Last of all, stay away from any foods that are advertised as low fat. They are filled with so much other crap that they are just as bad if not worse. Eat whole foods and meats that are naturally lean. Don't worry about fat too much, especially if you get the proper amount of exercise.
