Here's the simple difference between the left and the right on economic issues. They trust bigger government. We trust you. Liberals want to raise the minimum wage because they don't think you have the right to form your own contract with your employer. They passed social security/Medicare/Obamacare because they think that the government is better at spending your money than you are. Now, 1/3 to 1/2 of people's paychecks are going to Uncle Sam to pay for those who don't earn a paycheck. The left's core principles are rooted in the fact that they do not believe that people have a right to pursue their own happiness and follow their own hopes and dreams.

The right recognizes that there are natural differences in ability and effort and that to truly promote human happiness and dignity, we should give all the right to pursue their own course. We believe in free will, a free market, and a free people. So the next time you hear a leftist babbling about income inequality, remember that what those leftists really want to do is to take away your freedom.

Unfortunately, there are many millions of Americans who will choose a free ride over freedom and the left has recognized this and exploited it for all it's worth.

unfortunately they don't realize that the 'free ride' will not last....just look at all the liberal cities going bankrupt.....without freedom they will always be stuck in poverty and subservient to the whims of the rulers....

Dude, is this shit really what you think? If all the problems these programs were created to mitigate were simply ignored by the government, would you call that responsible governance? Of course not. Any government has the responsibility to provide for the common good and see that hunger and disease are a least somewhat dealt with in some rational and compassionate manner. Anything less requires lots of cops, lots of prisons and lots of repression to keep the peace.

Thanks to free enterprise, the percent of people living on $1/day or less over the past 40 years has fallen 80%. It's free enterprise, not socialist policies, that creates wealth and guarantees a decent life.

No, Jake. I'm simply pointing out the facts here. I believe in the freedom of contract and the rule of law. I think there's a better way than 40% of people's paychecks going to the government. I care more about creating wealth than redistributing it. Some people have different opinions than that about me, and I respect that. But the simple fact is that economic freedom is the #1 predictor of the success of a country. Thanks to Obama's socialist policies, the US has fallen to #12 in economic freedom, below Denmark, Australia, New Zealand, and even Canada. I'm fighting to restore the American dream for everyone, and give the right for everyone to pursue their own hopes and dreams, not Barack Obama's.

we already have tons of welfare for the poor.......we also have lots of cops, prisons, and repression....

so what is going wrong here....?

But not free vaginas and uteruses. Those you want highly regulated.

Come to think of it, you want to regulate penises and anuses too.

The right seems obsessed with regulating the most private intimate parts.

They really don't believe in privacy or freedom at all.

And yet the govt continues to fail at the seemingly most mundane tasks. How many years are we into our war on poverty?

I believe in a basic safety net in which private charity helps most of the people in need. The government's role should be limited to those who truly can't provide for themselves. The current system has about half of Americans receiving some sort of government aid. That's a recipe for disaster and goes against the ideals from which this country was founded. I don't think the government should be managing people's retirement and healthcare(with Social Security/Medicare) and I'd like to see these programs reformed, privatized, and returned to the states. Let's give people the right to keep 20% more of what they earn. That will help ease poverty far more than leftist central planning will.

In the leftist mind, providing for the common good really means providing for the selective good. It means giving to some while plundering others.

Oh, hell yes you are absolutely right in all your infinite wisdom. By all means let free enterprise run amok.
Seems you really haven't thought this whole thing through but then again it all adds up being the mind set you are.
But if something fucks up around where you live and they decide it doesn't matter to the "free enterprise" to fix the problem.
If you don't know what I am talking about go on a website that has some industrial fuck ups. The most recent comes to mind in W Virginia.

Business makes mistakes with the environment, but the people of West Virginia are infinitely better off with open coal mines than closed ones. The fact is that safer forms of energy, like natural gas, are being blocked by anti-fracking liberals despite their net effect of lowering CO2 emissions. And liberals are the ones blocking the opening of clean coal plants.

Look, I'm not saying free enterprise is perfect. But it's a whole lot better than Obama's top-down, trickle-up poverty approach that's bankrupting our country.

A typical plutocracy, trying not to collapse under the weight of a bunch of half-assed programs meant only to keep things from going total anarchy rather than effectively address any particular problem. Any or or all of our social problems could be things of the past if we were serious about stopping them but instead we just throw money at a problem hoping it will just go away. The problem is that there is just too much money to be made from misery.

Not all public schools are created equal though. I go to public school, but our school has a 97% graduation rate and the top students are consistently national merit scholars and become doctors, engineers, etc. Meanwhile, in nearby Gary and Chicago, the dropout rate is sky-high and kids graduate without learning how to read. Guess which way my community(Munster) votes and how Gary/Chicago do?

Of course, most public schools learn more toward Gary/Chicago than Munster, but it is worth pointing out.

Sorry, you will never convince me that industry and corporate america is out for the benefit of those around them or their employees. They are totally into grabbing the money and running. And when we have individuals like you that don't want to try and restrict them from the very beginning then suddenly when something goes awry it is to late.
Seriously, you think they have the environment and the communities around them in their best interest. Doubt it!
So, my standard point is, if you feel it is okay for them to do what they do to the places around them, get a petition to sign and say............."Hey come dump your overburden and your waste in my back yard and my where I live."
Hell. DO it.

I attended a government school, too. And then found the ointment.
