The political problems is that there are millions of young women for whom abortion is an emotional single issue even if they live in a state with no restrictions whatsoever. Proposing (but not passing) a federal law might be enough to get them to go shopping instead of voting.

The problem Trump has is not the message, it's how to deliver the message. No platform where the young liberals are will allow Trump on the platform or network or channel.
