The Green Tea Party? Fun y'all!

Dang. I hate seeing the Tea Party caving to political correctness to grab the vote. It's why I don't trust the political process that much anymore. Power, money, and notoriety have a tendency to change folks. Don't get me wrong, I love the wilderness and don't want to see it messed up but solar panels aren't the answer.

"Politics aside, everyone was celebrating a recent win: In July the utility regulators passed a bill requiring Georgia Power to buy 525 megawatts of solar power capacity by 2016;"

And that's how it happens. Pass a law requiring solar power to be bought instead of competing in the marketplace. Not politics aside, politics has everything to do with it.

“The free-market approach works well in Republican circles, so I can understand how these [groups] come together,” says Frank Maisano, an energy specialist at the Washington law firm Bracewell & Giuliani. “It becomes an economic argument.”

LOL, who wrote that shit? That isn't how free markets work. That's how croney capitalism works.

"Many Republicans remain opposed to solar energy because of the high costs, according to Americans for Prosperity, a group funded by the billionaire Koch brothers that often allies with the Tea Party. “We’ve had disagreements over solar,” says Virginia Galloway, director of Americans for Prosperity’s Georgia chapter. Coal and gas both generate electricity at a lower cost than solar, she says. Making utilities buy solar will raise costs that will be passed on to consumers, she says. “We oppose any mandates that would raise utility rates,” Galloway says."

Exactly. The people will pay more, the right people get rich and will pad the politicians pockets and the people will be told the prices would have been higher if not for their investment.

“There’s no competition here,” Dooley says. “Solar is our only way to force” the utilities to compete. On that, the Sierra Club’s position aligns with the coalition, says Colleen Kiernan, director of the club’s Georgia chapter. “With the conservative side, it’s a desire to provide a fair market for everyone and eliminate subsidies, and we agree to that,” she says.

That's an important distinction... INSTEAD of giving subsidies for large businesses to monopolize solar development, it's far preferable to set quotas on buying that power.. Easier to control over-production of solar and gets rid of a tax ride for the corporations. LESS chance of showing preferential treatment for political favors..

Better to not even establish buying quotas, but I'm not severely torqued off by this. These folks in that unholy coalitions are dupes however if they honestly believe this is serious COMPETITION for the utilities.. Solar is NOT an alternative.. It's a SUPPLEMENT.

Why not?

What about this is "political correctness"?

Aren't the answer to what? Powering a home? Seems that millions of people think otherwise.

U.S. PV Market Installs 4,751 Megawatts in 2013; Largest Year On Record
2013 was another record year for the U.S. solar industry. There were 4,751 MW of new photovoltaic (PV) capacity installed in 2013, representing a 41 percent increase in deployment over installation levels in 2012. Solar accounted for 29 percent of all new electricity generation capacity added in 2013, up from just 10 percent in 2012, which made solar the second largest source of new electricity generating capacity behind natural gas. The record year was driven in part by historical growth in the fourth quarter, as 2,106 MW came online in Q4 alone. (All data from SEIA/GTM Research “U.S. Solar Market Insight: 2013 Year in Review” unless otherwise noted.)

Installations Continue to Boom

There are now over 13,000 MW of cumulative solar electric capacity operating in the U.S., enough to power more than 2.2 million average American homes.
There were 140,000 new solar installations in the U.S. during 2013, bringing the total to over 445,000 PV systems operating today.
The utility market led the charge again with 2,847 MW of PV and 410 MW of Concentrating Solar Power (CSP) installed in 2013.

Another Record Year of Installations

Close to 6,000 MW of PV are forecasted to come online throughout 2014, which represents 26% growth over 2013's record installation totals.
2014 will be a record year for CSP as 840 MW are expected to be commissioned by year's end.
Together, new solar electric capacity projected to be added in 2014 will generate enough clean energy to power over 1.13 million average American homes.

I'm surprised at all of you.

Government is now forcing companies to purchase what they don't want.

Just one of many unintended consequences we warned you about when you set out to force the average American citizen to purchase expensive health insurance.

The door, open a crack, was just kicked open a bit wider.

Solar farms aren't profitable if they play by the same rules that other companies play by. The solar farm in the following link is doing really great and getting paid premium prices per kilowatt of energy produced but once they pay their bills they're losing money.

Then we have to consider the "environmental" eyesore that they (and wind turbines) create.

But let's also take a look at these "solar" companies that failed:

.Solar Trust of America: FAIL - Filed Bankruptcy in Oakland, CA, April 3, 2012 – On April 2, 2012

Bright Source: FAIL - Bright Source warned Obama’s Energy Department officials in March 2011 that delays in approving a $1.6 billion U.S. loan guarantee would embarrass the White House and force the solar-energy company to close. Lost Billions of dollars but Getting More Money To Keep Trying. Can you say, “This isnt working?”

Solyndra: FAIL - Obama gave Solyndra $500,000,000 in taxpayer money and Solyndra shut its doors and laid off 1100 workers in August 2011 After Billions in Losses due to failure to make a solar product that works!

LSP Energy: FAIL - LSPEnergy LP filed bankruptcy protection and a sale of its assets in Feb 2012

Energy Conversion Devices: FAIL – On February 14, 2012 Energy Conversion Devices, Inc. and its subsidiaries filed for bankruptcy

Abound Solar: FAIL - Abound Solar received a $400 million loan guarantee from Barack Obama announced in June, 2012 that it would file for bankruptcy

SunPower: FAIL – SunPower stopped producing solar cells last year at near bankruptcy restructured only with help of, get this, oil giant TOTAL who owns 60% stake. Irony! Still

Beacon Power: FAIL – Beacon Power Corp filed for bankruptcy Oct 2011 just a year after Obama approved $43 million loan Government loan guarantee

Ecotality: FAIL - ECOtality, a San Francisco green-tech company that never earned any money on the verge of bankruptcy after receiving roughly $115 million in two loan guarantees from Obama

A123 Solar: FAIL-A123 received $279 million from taxpayers thanks to President Obama’sDepartment of Energy loan guarantees and after Solyndra bankruptcy is getting another $500M from Obama and it has lost $400M

UniSolar: FAIL - Uni-Solar filed for Ch 11 bankruptcy in June 20 this year laid off hundreds got more Obama money still failing but still in business

Azure Dynamics: FAIL - Azure Dynamics files for bankruptcy in June ter millions in Obama “Stimulus”

Evergreen Solar: FAIL - Evergreen Solar received $527 Million in Taxpayer money from Obama filed bankruptcy

Ener1: FAIL received more than $100 million in government funding from the Obama administration filed for bankruptcy January 2012

Update: In May 2012 Obama visited a dusty, desert town 30 miles outside Las Vegas Wednesday to declare he’s doubling down on failed federal efforts to boost the solar industry which has NEVER proven to produce a single working product. Like Socialism, no evidence ot works, but they just keep doubling down on the failed ideals!.

Admittedly, I haven't verified the information above but I trust that the information is accurate.
