The "fumble at the goal line rule" makes no sense. If the defense never possesses the ball, they should not be awarded a turnover.

The offense gets to keep the ball if it is fumbled out of bounds. The end zone is not out of bounds. Every mistake has the potential to reverse the outcome of the game. I like it that way.
This just happened in the Chiefs Bills game. Receiver fumbles the ball at the 1 yd line, and it goes out of bounds in the end zone with no recovery by the Bills. Bills get the ball. Fortunately the NFL will be revisiting this flawed (imo) rule in the off season.
