The question of the electoral college is nothing new. The debate of how well it actually serves American democracy is older than any of us.

It is designed to give a voice to areas where they would have none. It can tip the scales slightly in precarious times and give time for the people to think things out before continuing in the same direction. In this modern age we want everything yesterday. Losing inalienable rights means losing freedoms. And we have lost a lot. And people with power in every way let us know it. Many of them without their power are pu**ies. We have increased that dimension massively in our higher tax nation in recent decades. Now we live in a nation where surveillance audio and video are near everywhere in public and private ways and will get a hundred times worse. Facial recognition is expanding also without our permission. Everything we do in social media and even watching TV is monitored and if a nasty government ever comes to power, they can pick out the people to blame for the bad times to their hearts desire. The propaganda masters of the past are crying over this modern age. And we see the current ones on TV everyday.

It would take a constitutional amendment, which would require the votes of 2/3 of both the House of Representatives and the Senate, and then would have to be ratified by 3/4 of the states....
