Closing businesses can't end the epidemic, but does destroy lives.
If you want to end the epidemic, you only have 2 choices that can work, full quarantine or herd immunity.
They both work because they are quick.
Flattening the curve can not, has not, and never could possibly work.

The fact 250k deaths out of 330 million is just 0.06% is a scientific fact that can't be used for political slant.
The fact flattening the curve does not and can never work is a scientific fact.

What science says is that all epidemics are ended by herd immunity, which works fastest with the highest initial spike.
So flattening the curve is preventing the epidemic from ending.
No one can contest that obvious scientific fact.

I am extremely progressive left, and dislike Trump, but he got this one right.
We either should have done nothing or made herd immunity happen even faster by deliberately infecting young volunteers.
It could easily have been over in March, with less than 20k dead.

This event violated the emergency restrictions on large gatherings ordered by Governor Kate Brown (D-Oregon) to slow the spread of the Wuhan CCP coronavirus. A neighbor witnessed the Sunday event and snapped some pictures from the street.

Brown placed 21 counties into an “Extreme Risk” category and extended deadlines for restrictions on social gatherings through the month of December. The controversy around Fagan comes at a time when rumors are swirling in Oregon’s capital of Salem. Many believe that Kate Brown, who can’t run for reelection as governor due to term limits, has attempted to position herself in a favorable light for a spot in a Biden-Harris administration in January. The secretary of state is second in the line of succession in Oregon if the governor resigns or is incapable of continuing in the job. If you simply evaluate 250,000 dead out of 330,000,000, you can not help but notice that it is 0.06% only, which is tiny.

And then you have to also realize that is after 10 months of deliberately "flattening the curve", which is well known for making an epidemic last more than 5 times longer than it normally would, and can make an epidemic last forever.
Normally epidemics burn out an end after 2 months or less, after they quickly spike.
By preventing a spike, we prevent the epidemic from ever ending, thus ensuring 5 times more die than necessary.

Actually it makes a lot of sense.
Not only did big pharma make hundreds of millions on test kits, but will make trillions on vaccines.
If herd immunity had been allowed to end the epidemic in March, there not only would have been no profits, but Trump would have had a much better chance of re-election.
There are lots of flu epidemics that are far more deadly and more infectious, and it is only by "flattening the curve" and prolonging the epidemic that the minor covid virus has been inflated into something frightening.
