Marcos flees the Philippines - Feb 25, 1986 - HISTORY.com
Ferdinand Marcos - Wikipedia
These daily reminders are giving me plenty of light reading to do. I remember this happening and wondering why we helped him escape.
Even though I might have let him get hung upside down from a light at a gas station now I think we helped Marcos escape as a pragmatic repayment of a debt in the fight against Communism. There is some reason to the idea we couldn't let someone with that much cold war knowledge fall into the people's hands I suppose.
Is our helping Marcos out generally thought of as a necessary debt paid by Reagan to a dictator we propped up during the cold war?
