How has 9/11 changed our 'folk storytelling tone' about federalism, terrorism, and civics?

====

King Edilson was once a wayward prince but redeemed himself and became a minister of social cohesion in what was called The Federation of the Americas. He wrote of his experiences in a memoir titled, The Blue Flower:

"After repenting for the sins of my youth (Halloween pranks with children of Romania, marijuana use, graffiti on castles, etc.), I devoted my life to vigilantism, calling myself 'Arrow' (as in 'arrow of truth'). I worked in Los Angeles and London, ridding the city streets of vandals and mobsters with my electric stun-gun, rope, and tranquilizer-tipped arrows. I kept my identity a secret but the press hailed me as a 'Modern Robin Hood.' It was during my third year of vigilante-work that I met the American movie actor and celebrity Tom Cruise.

Cruise and I believed in using the media (e.g., TV, movies, Internet, etc.) to forward ideas about pluralism and tolerance. Cruise was interested in Scientology free-speech, while I was interested in civics-responsibility social dialogue on the Internet and in newspapers and magazines. Cruise and I formed an alliance. He called himself 'Lantern' (as in 'light of guidance'), and I sent an anonymous piece to the Washington Post with the title, 'The Lantern-Arrow Media Crusade,' which surprisingly generated a great deal of street-gossip.

At the height of our influence, Cruise suggested we support censoring the statements of anti-federalists who mistrusted America's brand of pseudo-vigilante citizenry civics engagement in favor of anti-Western socialism-oriented terrorism and anarchy. I disagreed with Cruise/Lantern that censorship would cater to democratic aspirations, even when dealing with fanatics (since democracy relies on open-mindedness). We parted ways, but by then we had our own 'factions' of friends/supporters, so what ensued was the Lantern-Arrow Ideology Civil War.

The rift between Cruise and I subsided, and we continued our work with the modernism problems (e.g., urban crime, industrial pollution, illegal immigration, intellectual property theft, capitalism corruption, EU/NATO, North Korea nuclear weapons, etc.) as they related to democracy endorsements in the media. Cruise had made two important films about patriotism (Born on the 4th of July and Lions for Lambs) and two important films about creative discourse (Minority Report and Edge of Tomorrow). I had written two short-stories (on the Internet) about the development of populism politics in America titled The Bartleby Hexagon and Justice League: Leviathan.

The union Cruise and I formed would be known as G.I. Joe, and our adversaries (a loose global network of anti-republican terrorists) would be referred to as 'Cobra.' Despite the Civil War between us, Cruise and I donned the titles Duke and Snake-Eyes and became the informal supreme ministers of G.I. Joe and we each had our loyal allies/supporters. It was at this time that Cruise/Duke and I fell in love with the same woman, a lawyer and teacher (at Yale University) named Scarlett. We both believed we deserved her affections, and this new rift created between us made us very conscious and sensitive about the very basic human emotions in the modern world of networking-gauged 'psychology' (e.g., Facebook) that give rise to tangible anti-pedestrian sentiments towards terrorism, anarchy, and friendship (but mostly terrorism!)."

Dinobots: Drill-Masters

Ideas about imagining the 'ethical interaction' with Earth presented in films such as The Land Before Time and FernGully: The Last Rainforest reveal a modern age industrialization-repulsion interest in associating nature-balance with species self-defense, which is why perhaps Edward Abbey talked about eco-terrorism 'nativism' in his journeyman-deterioration book The Monkey Wrench Gang and why perhaps comic book eco-terrorism characters such as Poison Ivy (DC Comics) represent social interest in traffic-related terrorism. What is the new 'Happy Hollywood Ending'?

Aliens from a distant planet observed the activities of the G.I. Joe-Cobra engagement on Earth and the intrigue surrounding the Lantern-Arrow 'ballet.' Alec Baldwin was knighted, and Marilyn Monroe was sainted in this modern Earth age of consumerism-gauged 'low brow religion,' which ironically ringed in the hearts of the people bored with standard 'cathedrals.' However, a mad scientist in Japan found a way to extract DNA from mosquito blood taken from dinosaurs but frozen in the preserved snouts of the mosquitoes. This scientist, named Dr. Wily, was able to genetically clone and hence 'resurrect' these dinosaurs.

The aliens observing this Earth activity were sentient robots created by a super-cyber 'Orb' known as Unicron. They sent a sentry to Earth to gather the dinosaur DNA information-materials from Dr. Wily's lab and brought it back to their planet (Cybertron) and used it to build the Dinobots, robot-warriors that transform into Jurassic Era creatures such as the Pterodactyl. It was a real achievement for the robots of Cybertron, and the Dinobots would return to Earth and decide if they wanted to serve as guardians or terrorize as predators. It was all about the negotiation of energy-consumption.

The Dinobots (5 in all) decided to make peace with humans and Steven Spielberg produced a government-endorsed film called Jurassic Park, and it spawned a multi-billion dollar American entertainment industry franchise which even included amusement park attractions. The Dinobots were considered the 'A.I. sages' of human civilization and spent their lives in peace, not worrying at all about any kind evil threat posed by the destruction-minded scheming robots of Cybertron. They even received a guardian angel robot named Wheelie who watched over them and narrated spiritually over their cloud of happiness.

The storylines involving the fictional American comic book superhero Batman (DC Comics) reflect a pop culture interest in criminal insanity. Batman is a masked crusader who tackles the criminally insane in a fictional place called Gotham City which is scarred by crime. Batman's nemeses are all considered 'criminally insane terrorists' and therefore serve as a 'Tabula rasa' for free-speech dialogue. Do we think terrorists are criminally insane somehow?

I wonder how big a fan President Trump is of 'folk chatter,' since he has a celebrity background (entertainment industry).

I'm contributing my two-cents by offering up one more short-story (this one's about pseudo-politics related criminal insanity --- comic book stylized of course!). Has Trump said anything to the press such as, "I don't think Hollywood knows anything about low-brow politics!"?

IMO, you could honestly irk Trump by making references to his entertainment/gaming industry background (e.g., Trump Taj Mahal).

Samuels (aka, ā€˜Batmanā€™) had locked up all of the criminally insane terrorists of Gotham City --- Poison Ivy (an eco-terrorist), Scarecrow (a masked maniac wielding fear-toxins), Joker (a clown-faced anarchist), and Two-Face (a fanatical vigilante) at Arkham Asylum. The inmates had their own private cells and were being treated by the doctors/psychologists at Arkham (all employed by Samuels Enterprises, the lucrative research firm founded by Samuelsā€™ father Ted Samuels and now run by the son Fred Samuels). Fred (Samuels) contemplated the achievement of incarcerating these ā€˜urban ghoulsā€™ as the caped crusading ā€˜Batman.ā€™

Commissioner Gordon of the Gotham City Police Department requested Batman personally interview all the Arkham inmates before the psychologists began treating them, and Batman/Samuels agreed. Batman was a big fan of comic books, and the fact that he drew inspiration from the Bob Kane writings about an urban vigilante named ā€˜Batmanā€™ (DC Comics) frightened him, since all of the current Arkham inmates were in some way or another Bob Kane character-creation ā€˜villain copycats.ā€™ Batman interviewed each inmate separately, and the notes were kept in a special vault. Batmanā€™s primary suggestion was that ā€˜art therapyā€™ was the best prescription for criminal insanity, but he wanted to see what he could learn from the politically-educated if maniacal Arkham inmates.

BATMAN: Do you think eco-terrorism is absolutely necessary?
POISON IVY: Iā€™m a martyr. Eco-terrorism is the only way to engage oblivious corporations.

BATMAN: Do you believe youā€™re a positive role model to youngsters?
POISON IVY: Ya know, the Leo DiCaprio Foundation is a prominent eco-activism organization.

BATMAN: Do you consider yourself a ā€˜celebrityā€™?
POISON IVY: People can reap from my ā€˜workā€™ whatever they wish.

BATMAN: If youā€™re a martyr, then that makes me a ā€˜party-pooper.ā€™
POISON IVY: Iā€™m sure youā€™ll find peace with your predictable Republican Party associations.

BATMAN: You wanted to scare Gothamites with a fear toxin?
SCARECROW: Do you realize how many people mindlessly watch The Peopleā€™s Court (TV)?

BATMAN: You believe that fear is a cure to something?
SCARECROW: Yes! Apathy and laziness (sloth).

BATMAN: Why are you opposed to normal routes to social criticism (e.g., democracy)?
SCARECROW: I have no interest in being the token ā€˜Bartleby saint.ā€™

BATMAN: You frighten people who are already anxious about bureaucracy.
SCARECROW: Scared ya, didnā€™t I?

BATMAN: Stop laughing.
JOKER: I canā€™t! Arkham is a riot!

BATMAN: At least youā€™re clear about where you are right now.
JOKER: You find me insane, Batman?

BATMAN: Everyone is insane a little bit, but youā€™re self-destructive.
JOKER: Not a big fan of vaudeville?

BATMAN: Iā€™m not a big fan of terrorism. You need religion.
JOKER: Terrorism is simply a tool for moral hygiene.

BATMAN: Why do you insist on going overboard?
TWO-FACE: The duty of the vigilante is to experiment with civics.

BATMAN: You give youngsters the impression that law and order is simply a ā€˜game.ā€™
TWO-FACE: I think ya realize why Gotham is a giant gameshow, Batman!

BATMAN: I may be a vigilante, but Iā€™m not a punisher.
TWO-FACE: You have the luxury of distance from anarchy.

BATMAN: I empathize with your criminal insanity.
TWO-FACE: Weā€™ll see if Arkham doctors understand my ugliness. Thanks.

BATMAN: You modelled yourself after Bob Kaneā€™s fictional Batman nemesis Two-Face (David Raisch).
TWO-FACE: David Raisch is a ā€˜vengeance diplomatā€™ reflecting my ā€˜good workā€™ (ask the others).

After the interviews were completed, Batman returned to Samuels Mansion and began taking notes of his own. He concluded that Poison Ivy was dangerous and seductive, because her beauty made her a deadly ā€˜modelā€™ for the sexiness of crime and the general ā€˜allureā€™ of rebelliousness. Batman also concluded that Scarecrow and Joker required active medical attention for their clear anti-social sentiments. However, Batman was a bit rattled about his interaction with Two-Face. Two-Face was once the legal Gotham City DA named Harvey Dent but decided (like the other Arkham inmates) that copycatting pop culture Batman (DC Comics) ā€˜super-villainsā€™ would deliver home the stronger message that ā€˜lazy and complacentā€™ Gothamites could not idly ā€˜hideā€™ behind the ā€˜pastel comfortsā€™ of armchair TV weeknights and comic book films. Batman/Samuels decided that the best ā€˜brandā€™ of vigilantism for a Gotham beset by criminal insanity was simply ā€˜focused creativity.ā€™
