Tennesee lawmakers punish Memphis for destroying history

They should be punished. The city skirted laws to take this shit in their own hands.

Illegal and will be overturned by the courts.

Republicans have really just lost their shit entirely.

I am not sure if Memphis has any recourse. You don't have a right to state funds for a bicentennial celebration or any other celebration for that matter.

A state cant withhold state funds when a community skirts the law? Link?

'Skirts'? Was it legal what they did?
Do you have a link that says the state cant punish a community for skirting the law? Or anything even close?

If it's legal, it's legal. Opinion about whether a political party likes it or not is irrelevant. Like all the bogus anti-abortion laws Republican states have been passing that have all been struck down because, you know, the Supreme Court ruled 40 years ago abortion is legal. Republicans today though are feeling like ignoring the Constitution. Sorry Charlie, isn't going to happen.

your argument was built off it being illegal for the state to do that.
Shit or get off the toilet.

They pulled the same legal switcheroo that was tried California in that fight about the cross on public land. "Mount Soledad?). Here they transferred the land to a private non profit to skirt the law preventing local governments from removing monuments.

The funny thing is I think that was struck down by the 9th circuit in Cali, so if this goes to court Memphis may be in even more trouble.

LOL Thanks you confirmed you aren't able to carry a conversation. You are driven like most cons by emotion. "We don't like what this city does so we're going to steal their money."

This certainly demonstrates the sick mindedness of the Tennessee legislature. These items were sold to a nonprofit. They were not destroyed. All that Memphis did was remove them from display on public property. What the Tennessee legislators are actually pissed off about is the loss of public prominence of memorials of people whom they themselves admire, but who are not necessarily admired by the general public. If folks in Kentucky can build an ark park, why don't the complainers get some financial backing in place and build some sort of museum that would house these items and explain their significance? I can't think that land is that expensive in Tennessee.

The Tennessee legislature needs giant boxes of tissues.

If you can't handle the heat then stay out of the kitchen snowflake. Memphis KNOWS what they did was illegal and wrong and they are being punished for it. Good for Tennessee!

Thanks for your drivel snowflake. You have some proof it was illegal? I tried to get that from the other derp but he can't answer, perhaps you can fill the void and be his hero which is what you appear to want to do. I myself don't know the legalities of the situation and don't really care that much, but it's 99% likely the city had legal ability to remove those shitstain statues from public view unless you have evidence otherwise. If I'm wrong I'm wrong, so here's your moment Batman, spring into action.
