Ted Cruz, Son of a Refugee, Tells Syrian Refugees to Go Home
The Texas senator’s father fled violence in Cuba in the ’50s, but the current crop of Syrian refugees won’t have the same protection if Cruz has his way.
Ted Cruz, whose own father fled an oppressive regime decades ago, said Tuesday he opposed the U.S. taking in “large numbers” of refugees fleeing violence in Syriaand elsewhere in the region.

The ultimate goal for the migrants seeking safety from the violence that is roiling North Africa and the Middle East should be for them to return home, the 2016 presidential contender said Tuesday, not to resettle them in America.

Europe has been in the grips of a migrant crisis, driven especially by violence in Syria, where fighting between the Assad regime, rebel factions, and ISIS have driven millions from their homes. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees estimates that the number of refugees fleeing Syria now exceeds 4 million, the largest refugee crisis in the UN agency’s history.

Cruz’s statement stands in stark contrast to his family story, which he frequently on the campaign trail uses to highlight the American dream and the importance of a country that values freedom and liberty. That story is about his father, Rafael Cruz, who fled Cuba to the United States after enduring torture at the hands of the Batista regime.

“America, quite simply, saved my father. America gave him a chance… The freedom of America was the dream that allowed him to endure the brutality of Cuba. It was and is a beacon of hope for all those who, like him, have endured oppression,” Cruz wrote in his recent memoir, A Time for Truth.

In early 2014, Cruz seemed to be singing a different tune: “We have welcomed refugees, the tired, huddled masses, for centuries—that’s been the history of the United States. We should continue to do so,” he said in a Fox segment about Syrian refugees. “We have to continue to be vigilant to make sure those coming are not affiliated with the terrorists. But we can do that.”

Totally different kind of immigrants. But hey these guys in the video may like the clowns.

good to see Cruz using his brains rather than silly emotion . Probably also thinks that these 'muslim' men are probably a problem . I'd call them reinforcements for the already existing 'fifth column' in the USA David !!

No one wants unlimited refugees to come here, but we destabilized the region, we need to be decent human beings.

It's true, Obama's Arab Spring really fucked things up.
Smartest President ever, outplayed by the JV team.

How many are you going to take into your house and feed them?
Ridiculous statement, typical of rwers when they realize they don't have a sound argument. You might as well say "If you are against abortion so much and think it's murder, why aren't you paying mothers to have kids so you can take care of them?"

You really want to try to blame Obama for the arab spring and somehow make a ridiculous connection linked back to Obama? Of course you do, muslim fearing xenophobes like yourself have no sense of decency in their body.

That headline is a lie. He never said "go home" .

So.. you want to be the savior on other people's money? That's what you are saying?

Ridiculous, I have called you out on your ridiculous line of thought and you proceed to a ridiculous point. I pay taxes, I know that the government is the best way to help these refugees, telling individual people to do it is ridiculous. I don't expect pro lifers to pay women money to carry fetuses to term so they can save and raise the baby..

We are in $19 trillion debt. It is not a ridiculous point. Use your head every once in a while…on second thought, you are using it but the pea size brain is all what you have…
