But very little of the spending took place in 2009, which is why the Right kept saying throughout 2009 that it should be repealed to pay down the GOP National Debt.Actually the GOP National Debt was $11.9 trillion at the end of Bush's last fiscal year. That $11.9 trillion has cost us over $2 trillion in interest since then so therefore the total GOP National Debt is $14+ trillion. The debt was 10.6 Trillion when Obama took office. It didn't get there without Republican help.
Obama wrote the budget for what you're calling "Bush's last fiscal year." So he owns it.
No banana, charlie.
Nope, Obama's budget began Oct 1 2009.
American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, a US stimulus package enacted by the 111th United States Congress in February 2009 and signed into law on February 17, 2009
That's the day Obama became responsible for the budget. That was his budget.
The government wouldn’t be able to spend at least one-fourth of a proposed $825 billion economic stimulus plan until after 2010, according to a preliminary report by the Congressional Business Office that suggests it may take longer than expected to boost the economy. The government would spend about $26 billion of the money in 2009 and $110 billion more next year, the report said. About $103 billion would be spent in 2011, while $53 billion would be spent in 2012 and $63 billion between 2013 and 2019.
It doesn't matter. If Obama wanted to cut spending on other programs, he could have done. That bill was effectively his budget for the year.
