Contrary to all the mindless PC sloganeering, low voter turnout has been a blessing for our democracy. As Winston Churchill said, "The greatest argument against democracy is talking to the average voter." The participation of uninterested and/or ignorant voters undermines the idea of an enlightened electorate, while at the same time increasing the liklihood of manipulated mob rule (e.g., the French Revolution).
By any objective measurement, a substantial number of potential voters do not possess sufficient knowledge or intellect to make an informed decision. Why encourage them?
